Description: The Red Lion Inn, Babcary - a beautiful thatched country pub in the heart of this unspoilt Somerset village.Pubs have always been at the heart of the local community and The Red Lion is no exception. As well as six en-suite rooms, a flagstoned bar and award winning restaurant, we also have a function room that overlooks a pretty courtyard garden and provides an ideal venue for weddings and parties. We offer a range of catering options and have our own marquee. Our team are handpicked for their personality, professionalism and ability to provide first class customer care. Wherever possible, we use local suppliers so that we can offer our customers fresh, locally sourced produce. Our role in the community is important to us and we take every opportunity to reduce our impact on the environment and our neighbourhood.Conveniently situated five minutes off the A303 and A37 The Red Lion is a perfect stop.

After 7 years since the last visit i assumed that the pub would have improved Oh !1 dear how wrong was I !!!!!! The only saving grace was the pudding, the rest was so bad, let them explain as to what went on in this very poor pub.
The service was very slow, was it because we complained!!!!!
Guess we will not be going their for a long time!!!!!

We have been going to The Red Lion for many years and have always had excellent, attentive service to our needs. However, tonight I had to ask for service on our table twice as the staff were very inattentive to empty plates and glasses and even to wanting to pay the bill.

The food was, as usual, very good and different from choices in other local pubs.

We had pre-booked a table for two for 7pm and when we arrived the restaurant was quite quiet. Our booking was ok and the meals we had were first rate. Not your common pub food. Service
from the young waitresses was excellent. Two years ago we had visited The Red Lion for a snack lunch so we did know what to expect.
If you are in the area you must try this Inn, but at weekends you most probably need to book.

My partner booked for my birthday we were welcomed by a nice friendly bar member, who told is where to sit, but took 15 minutes for a menu to be brought to us, on looking at the menu and there was only 1 vegetarian main for my partner to have and she didn't like it, so asked the waitress if she could get one of the vegetarian sandwiches and before we had finished we got a straight NO. Not I will just check with the chef and ask!! (I'm sure making a pesto sandwich would not of put the kitchen out of their way) instead my partner had to have the ham egg and chips minus the ham but still got charged full price for that dish.. As a meat eater the dish I had was excellent just the staff and that one issue spoilt my birthday night.

The Red Lion was recommended to us after a Facebook plea for accommodation between Bristol and Stonehenge. After a visit to the impressive and informative website we booked a room for a Sunday in mid June.

Our late afternoon Sunday evening arrival was greeted with sunshine and Calvin checked us in and showed us to our room, which was stunning. We weren’t sure what to expect in such a tiny village but it’s fair to say that no expense was spared in the fitting out of the new bedrooms block in a building separate from the main pub / restaurant. The linens were gorgeous, the bathroom spacious and the rooms well fitted with all mod cons!

We had dinner in the dining room with some old friends who came over form South Petherton. They hadn’t been in a while but were happy for an excuse to dine at the Red Lion as the food has a good reputation among the locals. No one was disappointed and a decent wine list and selection of real ales helped to make the evening very sociable.

Breakfast was fresh and tasty and served with individually and freshly ground coffee, which was a perfect way to start a buy day of site seeing. We didn't check the wardrobe on our way out and realized when we got to Stonehenge that we had left our jackets behind. A couple of phone calls later and Calvin was on the case eventually and graciously getting our jackets to Dublin for us. All is now good in the world.

We’d highly recommend the Red Lion in Babcary.
