Positively the best place to stay in an out-of-the-way town like Valentine, NE. We regret that the few times we have traveled thru Valentine in the past that we had stayed at the supe8... not that there is anything wrong with the super8... it is a well run motel... but we wish we had
known about the Raine. The Raine is a different deal and we are very happy we looked up lodging in Valentine, NE, before we headed off on this last trip. Valentine is a busy little town complete with a neat main street and stores... Do not forget to visit the "square" downtown. Anyhoo, the Raine Motel is exactly as advertised and more. The place is from the 1960's or so but *exactly* what we like in a well cared-for pure "Americana" Motel. The owners are the most delightful people and they even have some charcoal grills you can use right outside your door if you choose. They have an outside "patio" with lots of tables and chairs and a nice bar and restaurant. I saw a huge BBQ pit there and can only assume they have some special events on the patio. We were there too early in the season for us to enjoy it. (Texans are always surprised by the meaning of "seasons"... we have no clue what that means!) The rooms were very clean and the beds so comfy that us old geezers were able to "spoon" up and sleep well all night... which is rare in modern motels. I suggest that anyone will love the Raine... maybe even the hard headed if they will fit a "happy face" mask before checking in.
