“Splashing around in the waterfall”

This is a beautiful State park with a nice hike to the falls. The walkway is a gently sloping wooden walk, suitable for most capabilities. The park allows dogs, so ours were along for the walk. When you get to the falls, you have the opportunity to leave your shoes on the wooden walkway and splash around at the bottom of the falls. There were several folks already there enjoying the cool water on this 85 degree day, and we joined them, along with the dogs. Everyone enjoyed splashing around, and then we had a short hike back to the ranger station. Nickie, one of the ladies at the ranger station, was a fountain of local information. This was a nice way to end our visit to Valentine, Nebraska.

the tallest falls in nebraska are spectacular and worth the trip. the path to the falls is paved and level and well marked. the falls themselves are truly amazing.

My family spent the night at the Smith Falls State Park and had a very nice time. The waterfall is impressive and very cold - it feels great in the July/August heat. The camping spot was nice. Trees with the river only steps away. There are showers and restrooms within walking distance. The campsite is clean and well kept. Showers are .75 for three minutes of warm water. The kids played in the river for hours and you can tube/canoe down the river for 2 - 8 hour treks.
