I am torn as I write this review. El Ranchito is one of my favorite places to eat because of the food. My friends, family and I go back each time because of the food and because we hope the service will be okay.
El Ranchito is authentic Mexican so one should not expect it to be like Taco Johns or Taco Bell. . . thankfully. The staff members are all Hispanic and in many cases, the clientele is Hispanic as well.
Often, it is a 10+ minute wait to get someone to come to the table with menus. They will bring one small complimentary basket of chips and one dish of salsa but if you order more, you will be charged.
There is a bar connected to the restaurant and if you can get your waitress to stop by to take your order, the beer is usually pretty cold.
Expect authentic food here. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are large.
If you like guacamole, you should try it here.
With regards to service, the quality decreases if the group size is large. The servers tend to ask just one person if they need a beverage refill and then take off to get it without asking others if they need something. I have notes servers to be a bit cranky as well. Somehow, the food makes up for that.
El Ranchito is a popular place for Hispanic families to hold their daughters' 15th birthday parties. If you have never seen one of these events, a quinceanera, consider it a treat if one is taking place while you are here. Connected to the restaurant is a huge ballroom/party room. The quinceaneras are held there and everyone in attendance is dressed up in their finest. If you are dining in the restaurant, it can get a bit loud. If you are lucky, you might get invited to join the celebration. We have several times.
