“Sunday lunch friendly and welcoming”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

It is some years since I have been to this delightfully comfortable venue. Very friendly and efficient staff who left us with just the right amount of time between courses. We both declined the somewhat limited Sunday lunch menu and opted for fish and chips and ham egg and chips. The fish came in two pieces and looked huge but was rather good so managed them both. Disappointed that the fish came with skinny fries would have preferred chunky chips. Both had a sumptuous desert and would go back. It has a very good ambience and most pleasantly decorated.

“Cosy deliciousness in an Oxfordshire village”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

I'm just back from a lunchtime visit to The Mole Inn. We were offered either the a la carte menu, or the set menu, or the specials. Which actually made ordering incredibly easy. It works.
My companion and I both ordered the haddock, with a hollandaise sauce, topped by a soft-boiled egg - done just so - sitting on a bed of mashed potato. How is it that just a few shreds of spring onion can make so much difference to the latter. All incredibly simple, but totally delicious.
Well schooled waitresses (although "Julie will be looking after you today" should be discouraged)
Wednesday lunchtime, and the place was quietly buzzing, with civilised talk and a general air of satisfaction and enjoyment. I'll be back. And I'm not saying which is the best table in the house, because you might get in there before me.

“A wonderful New Year evening”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

We booked late and got a cancellation.

My wife and I had a wonderful New Years celebration at The Mole. What a lovely, warm, friendly and happy atmosphere. It was very special. Near perfect. And there are no buts.

The food was great, the wine just right by the glass to suit the course and the service attentive. What more can one ask of a restaurant.

It's not easy running a busy restaurant and kitchen. The Mole do it consistently. And make their customers relax.

Well done.

“Good yet again - but don't forget to book!”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

The family again visited the Mole for the second time in a couple of months, this time on a quiet, post New Year weekday lunchtime (one of the only times we have ever seen the Mole quiet).

Again we were not disappointed by the food or the service and it is difficult not to recommend it.

We shared the devilled kidneys and duck starters alongside the bread, olive and balsamic vinegar (the bread is home baked and is something we never miss).

We tried a variety of mains - duck confit, pork belly with scallops (mash replaced with fat fries without fuss), mushroom linguine, steak, and the thai fish cakes (a starter but you can larger size portions of the starters as mains).

For those of us not defeated we finished with the chocolate fondant and creme brulee.

We all agreed that, yet again, the Mole's food takes some beating and are fortunate to have such a fantastic place and menu a short walk from home. At the risk of starting to sound like a Masterchef judge the food combinations are clearly well thought through, the tastes extraordinary (based on the duck and the fish cakes) and the food well presented.

Would we go again? Of course - the Mole has just celebrated its 10th birthday, which says a lot about the quality of the food and the charm of the place. Would we expect to find it this quiet again? Based on past experience - certainly not - if you follow the recommendations of many on this page and want to try the Mole we suggest you book well in advance, otherwise getting in may be your only disappointment.
