Review of Ponca State Park

Ponca State Park

I can't believe we haven't camped here before! The park and the scenery is beautiful, and I loved all the kids activities and classes you had to offer. If I could think of anything negative to say, it would be that you need more electric camp sites, preferrably closer to the main building. We hope to make it back again yet this summer!

The Center is a very nice regional events/conference center, new "cabins" are like beautiful homes, excellent activities (horse rides, trails, boating, fishing), events are outstanding (Sept Outdoor Expo, October Hallowfest, etc.), and all with friendly people. I love my park!

We just spent 4 days/3 nights at Ponca State Park in the Bald Eagle Cabin. We hiked, participated in archery, kayaking and wildflowers & watercolors as well as taking a dip in the Missouri. The only downside is that the pool doesn't open until mid-June and it has been hot in Nebraska this year since the end of March. Too bad they didnt' adjust their pool opening to fit this year's weather. At least the water level of the Missouri was swimmer-friendly and free! The park is very hilly and wooded so there aren't many panoramic views but we had a great time and would definitely go back. The new cabins are modern with 4 bedrooms (Queen beds) and 2 baths. There is even a dishwasher! There were plenty of other activities scheduled for the week but out kids needed to be 12 or older for some and others were scheduled for the rest of the week after we had to leave. Since it is so hilly, I would not recommend this park if you have very small children.

Great Hiking Trails, and secluded camping spots. You really feel like your out in the forest, with the convience of having a town nearby
