“Wow!!”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

I'll be honest, I didn't expect a lot from a Holiday Inn Express in the middle of nowhere, Nebraska. I was definitely proven wrong on this one. This is a beautiful property. The whole hotel is very clean. The staff is extremely welcoming and kind. This property is "country" themed. It makes for a very unique experience (in a great way). It seems that chain hotels in small towns dip below the standard set by the brand, but this hotel exceeded my expectations by a lot. Thank you!

Our staff works hard to satisfy our guests, and I will pass on your review to let them know that you noticed and recognized the efforts we strive to achieve. Our proximity to the Interstate with several restaurant options nearby and in town make Ogallala a convenient, less crowded place to stop when traveling to or through Ogallala on I-80. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Stayed a night in this country-themed motel. It had a well trained staff, decent breakfast. We sometimes feel like a suite – it just gives a little more room, as one person can go to bed - while the other watches TV. Sometime - we are tired of eating out and may prefer to finish our meal back in the suite – and it is nice to have a bigger room for relaxation. For a few bucks more – it can be worth it.

However - their suites are not anything more than a standard room with a couch - which has replaced the typical 2nd double bed. There is no door to the bedroom, a bathroom is located in the center of the room, an extra little 19" TV sits in a shelf - besides the refrig. There are no cupboards - no dishes - nothing really of extra of suite value. Just a couch with 2 lamps - looking at a little TV. It would have been more comfortable to lay on a 2nd double bed – while watching the larger bed TV.

Motel Suggestions: Please make a better effort to create a suite feeling, with a wall cupboard or two - and even a few throw-away dishes/utensils from their breakfast area. A bedroom door - to close - by the bed area would be a very easy remodel. A couple of recliners are much preferred rather than a hard couch. Put the small TV in the bedroom, the larger one belongs in front of the recliners. It still remains small - but I would advertise it as a mini-suite.

But – I just can’t recommend your current suite.

Thank you for your input. There are many hotels that term some of their rooms as suites but there is no one definition of what a suite really is unless you contact the property direct to ask them what their suites entail and how they are designed. Our suites are set up with the room upon entering having a wet bar with TV located within the unit. We plan to upgrade this area in the near future with a larger wall mounted television. This room has a sofa sleeper for families that need additional sleeping accommodations for kids and/or adults. The main bedroom is separated by the bathroom with a short hall leading to the bedroom. You can usually use both areas with TVs on and not disturb the other area. We plan to replace the sofa sleepers in the near future and will also consider a room with 2 recliners and a lamp table in between as an option for persons not needing the additional sofa sleeper. I glad you had an overall positive experience reflecting good service from our team. I will convey your appreciation to my team members. We look forward to serving your again in the near future!

We s tayed at this HiEx on our way from Wisconsin to Colorado. We got in about 5:30pm so we were actually awake and in the room for a few hours before getting some sleep and hitting the road the next morning, unlike some other road trip stops. The staff were friendly and the western décor was cute but not over the top. Room was clean, bed was comfy. We were on the third (top) floor which was nice as there is no noise from above, but our room faced the interstate which is very close and a bit loud especially being near the off ramp so the trucks are using their engine brakes. We had an apartment near an interstate once and were very tired so the noise didn't disrupt our sleep, but if it might disrupt yours ask for a room facing the back. Breakfast was the usual HiEx fare, hot cinnamon rolls, pancake machine, those pre-made mini omelettes (which for some reason I like), biscuits and gravy, sausage, etc. Overall, evertyhing you expect from HiEx (except no pool/hot tub). I would stay here again if it was the most convenient place to stop but nothing wowed me so much I would pick this HiEx over another.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front are very close to the interstate and can be loud. Rooms facing the back overl...

Thank you for your review. We rely on the input of our guests in order to consider the changes that will make your stay for you and others better in the future. Unfortunately, many hotels are located on bust streets or adjacent to highways for easy access. One option for noise is that we offer ear plugs if desired to block out outside noise. Some guests leave their AC / Heater on continuous to create white noise to block out as well. As for no pool, we do offer a free pass to the Goodall Rec. Center nearby. It is a newly renovated and expanded center with an indoor walking / jogging track, a huge assortment of new exercise equipment, and an Olympic sized pool for adults and supervised children enjoy. This environment is far superior to most basic, limited exercise rooms. Thanks again for staying with us we look forward to seeing your again soon.

This is the strangest HIE we stayed at on this trip.

I expect more from Holiday Inn Express than this. The hotel is newish, but the bathroom fixtures and furniture look like purchases from an older motel. The room is arranged so you can't see the television from the chairs, mostly because the refrigerator and microwave are set into a cabinet needlessly. You can't open the fridge without scraping your hand on the sharp edge of the shelf above, either. There's no lamp on the desk, water drains slowly in the shower, and the deadbolt on the door isn't aligned correctly, so it doesn't work.

The lobby area is fine, although the decor is surprising, and the hotel is clean, but things just seem out of kilter.

Most annoying was the slow wifi connection. It took at least 5 minutes to log on, and downloading anything too slow to be useful.

Thank you for your input. Our property reflects a western stylization since the history of this region was in the heart of the Old West. Our unique architecture and furnishings differ from the urban contemporary hotels. We will consider your input in an effort to better meet your expectations more effectively next time.

Hotel has recently been updated. Very clean, rooms big and comfortable. Sound quality pretty good. People across from us were door slammers but nothing you can do about that. Service was ok. Do not eat at the Golden Spur by the Best Western! See my review. Would stay there again.

Thank you for your review we appreciate your input. Unfortunately, there are a few guests that are not considerate when coming and going from their rooms letting doors slam, talking loud in the halls, etc. I'm happy to hear your positive comments and will relay them to my team members. This is a great hotel. If I had to find something to complain about, I would have to say that the bed was a little hard. Otherwise, this place was great. We were told breakfast didn't start until 6:30, but the nice ladies had it ready before 6:00. Great service

I was on a cross-country road trip with my brother and we had been driving for over 12 hours when we tried to get a hotel room in Sterling, CO. Well they were all sold out and we weren't quite aware that we would have to drive another 90 minutes to get to more hotels.

We arrived at the Holiday Inn Express close to 12:30am. Ed was at the front desk and he was so welcoming and pleasant after a day of stressful driving through the Rockies. Fortunately the hotel is non-smoking and he had a room available with 2 queens. He checked us in quickly and made sure we knew about the good breakfast they had to offer.

We were on the 3rd floor in a clean and quiet room. Basically we went right to sleep. I enjoyed that they had different types of pillows (firm or soft), Bath & Body Works shower amenities, and the morning breakfast had a lot to offer from biscuits and gravy and a make-your-own pancakes machine to yogurts and fresh fruit.

If we find ourselves on another trip like this, we will definitely stay again!

I'm glad you chose us for your stay and appreciate hearing your positive comments about our front desk associate. He really does go out of his way to make sure things go right from the start. Our soft and firm pillow selection and our Bath and Body Works amenities are consistent now with all Holiday Inn Expresses and are well received by our guests. The breakfast room is always a great way to start your morning with excellent staff serving our guests. Thanks again and please stay again soon! I can't tell from your review, however, if you aren't an IHG rewards club member please sign up. It will be well worth your time to take advantage of the many benefits.
