New ownership didn't work out. Horribly managed. The place is closed now. Sad to see a part of Ogallala history go. Perhaps someone will pick up where they left off and do a better job.

I was all set to eat breakfast at Ole's in Paxton, Nebraska, but for some reason it wasn't open. Going down the road with a grumbling tummy, it was refreshing to see a good old fashioned American diner such as Hoke's open for business. It was the middle of the week, so the place was empty, Our food came quickly and was inexpensive. While you're not going to find omelettes with shaved truffles or bagels adorned with sparkling pink lox, this place can't be beat for a good old fashioned American breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast and hash browns. While sitting in a comfy booth, it felt like we were transported to the 1950s. So glad that we stopped here instead of a chain or a fast food place!!

Hoke's Café has been a tradition in Ogallala for many, many years. I was hoping that the new ownership would continue the tradition of fine home cooked food and neighbor style service. Unfortunately, that is not the case, we stopped in for a breakfast while visiting relatives in the area. We were met at the door by a cook -waitress that said if we were in a hurry we should go elsewhere. We weren't, as we could use the time to visit. After a few minutes some one came and took our orders, which was for straightforward simple breakfasts. After an eternity we were served some pathetic orders of pre-cooked meats, hard eggs, and prepared hash browns and dry toast, all served cool to cold. Then we had to special order our silverware as there was none on the table. We would have left but we really wanted to give it every chance to redeem itself, to no avail. Just skip this one and go elsewhere!

We had a decent breakfast, but I was not impressed with the service and I haven't been back since. I will try them again as everybody has an off day.
