“Be sure to see the films in the barn.”

Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park

With a low cost of a $5 daily park pass and a $2 senior admission each, this was a nice break as we drove across Nebraska on a very hot summer day. The house tour is self guided and we had difficulty finding some of the items mentioned in the pamphlet which might need to be updated. The three women on the site seem to act more as security rather than guides although they will answer questions when asked. Our favorite on the site were the outbuildings especially films from the Wild West show. They are very old and deteriorating so they might not be shown much longer. Glad we got to see them!

If you are looking for something to do in North Platte the ranch is an affordable and historic landmark. The house is full of artifacts and antique furniture as well as photos of the family. There is a small gift shop in the house. I did notice that children are not allowed upstairs (didn't catch what the age restriction is). As you leave the house you go out to the icehouse and springhouse. The barn is huge and full of Wild West show items along with buggys and a covered wagon. A short walk from the barn and you can see buffalo calves. Walk over the bridge and back a little further is a log cabin with a sod roof. The grounds have picnic areas and everything is well maintained, clean, and easy walking.

The cost is $5.00 for a Nebraska Park daypass and then $2.00 for seniors. Well worth the price and a good place to have a picnic.

Being from Denver, where Buffalo Bill is buried I was interested in seeing his home in North Platte. I am glad I stopped, very interesting, a little more than the museum on lookout mountain in Denver.

This is not an attraction that we spent a lot of time at, but was an interesting stop in North Platte. It's worth some time and the small entrance fee. We especially enjoyed exploring the barn and also the old photos from his show.
