There's not a whole lot to not like about this city park. In fact there's something for everyone. From the static railroad displays to the miniature carnival rides to the different sporting events there's something to do. This park is home to Buffalo Bill's Old Glory Blowout which became his famous Wild West Show. And it pays homage to him with the statue of him at the parks entrance. there's free camping and lots of animals to visit. Eagles like to perch a long the North Platte River during the winter months and the park lake fills with waterfowl that never seem to get enough to eat. A great place for the whole family.

If you are heading on a long drive, on Interstate 80 North Platte sits in the middle of a long stretch between Lincoln, 220 miles to the East - and Cheyenne, 220 miles to the West. You can get out and stretch your legs and enjoy this park which has a lot to offer. There are ball fields and an amusement park and a pool and much more, but I headed over to where there are some old locomotives.

Inside the railcars is a a nice (and free) museum detailing the growth of the railroads and their importance to this region. You can learn about how mail was processed and handled as well in an old mail car. There are lots of old photos and historical anecdotes and I felt it was not only well put together, but especially unique that the exhibit was inside the train itself.

I got gas in town and got back on the road with a deeper understanding for the part of the country I was traveling through. After all, I-80 parallels the route of the original transcontinental railroad. Places like Cody Park can add a lot of depth to your travel experience

We stayed for one night in North Platte, and read about Cody Park while looking for a place to stay. What a great little treat this was.

The rides were great for our kids (4 and 1), and were cheap to boot. The young guys running the rides were very friendly, the girls had a blast!

I wouldn't expect too much, but it is a solid good time for kids.

We were to North Platte and picked up some lunch, and were looking for a place to eat. This park is a large, wonderfully treed, excellent place to enjoy the peace and quiet in the midst of the city. We had a nice picnic table, there was a good playground for kids, and our dog had a good walk too. A pleasant surprise were the trains on the north end of the park! Extra added bonus to a perfect fall afternoon!
