I was on the 14th floor. Great view. Watch the evening storms (lightening/thunder/occasional tornado). A grand show. Restaurant/bar on site. Just across the street is the historic Haymarket District - restaurants, bars, shopping. The staff were especially helpful & responsive. All-in-all, a very good experience.

Room Tip: Some rooms look out on another building. Go high or in front.

I was at the Holiday Inn, Downtown for a recent business meeting. I received a very reasonable rate which included breakfast every morning and the usual hotel amenities. Breakfast was decent enough. Rooms were clean and quiet - comfortable beds. Service provided by all staff was very friendly and polite. Only downside I found was that the fitness center was a little too small. Over all great experience at a very reasonable rate.

Nice hotel, nice fitness room. Just pretty unhelpful disengage staff at the front desk. You know the kind of people that look as if they tire just opening their mouths to speak? That would describe them. The rooms are great, location is great and they have a really nice pool and outdoor sun area for those warm summer months.

Rooms are incredibly quiet which is rare these days.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review of the hotel. We appreciate your comments. I am sorry your interaction with our guest representatives was not a positive one. We strive for excellent customer service and engaged associates. We will continue to try to better ourselves in that area. Driving a large pick up does present some issues in our garage but if you can park on the main level or the first level down it makes it possible. Just a tip for next time you come see us. Thanks again for the review.

Our family of four stayed here last night amidst thunderstorm and tornado warnings for a little excitement. Actually, when the tornado warning sirens went off all over downtown, they notified every room and asked (but did not force) folks to move down to the basement. It was about 11 pm and most (including us) chose not to go. But they were obviously prepared and equipped to deal with this special challenge of the evening.

The hotel has a great location, placed a block after the freeway into downtown ends and becomes a city street. It's like an interstate to the door of the hotel. If you use their parking ramp plan on an extra $7/day (with in/out privileges). Metered street parking is also available (free after 6 and on Sundays). The area is really nice, with lots of interesting pubs and restaurants and a really cool feel to the area. Someone mentioned the trains nearby. The hotel is just two blocks from the train station and lots of tracks, but I noticed no noise from trains at all, and actually enjoyed seeing trains passing (I'm guessing their speed is regulated to a slow pace downtown). But the rooms still weren't quiet; even where we were on the 9th floor you could hear quite a bit of street noise, police sirens, etc. (and in our special case tornado sirens as well). However, guest noise was well-controlled. The hotel was full, but still very quiet. No wild parties to wake you up here. If you need to be downtown this is a good area. The Embassy Suites about a block away is also a good option in the area.

The hotel was generally well-maintained. Everything was fine, though nothing was really impressive. No real complaints, except that a decent breakfast might be included with the room (no free breakfast of any kind is provided). Rooms felt a little cramped, and a little tired though well-maintained. Door latch did not function very well and door was hard to open from the outside. Everything generally clean. Bathroom in our double double was very small. Lobby was fine, though any sitting/gathering area was very limited. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel which looked alright in passing, though we did not eat there. There are many good and diverse food options nearby, many within walking distance. We didn't have time to use the pool, and I didn't even get a look at it on the second floor. All personnel we interacted with were consistently friendly, professional, and helpful.

Beware the numerous city, county and state taxes in this area. Our special rate $129 room had another $21 of taxes tacked on. This is no fault of this hotel obviously, but something to be aware of when staying in any of the downtown hotels in this area. I'm not sure what the normal charge is for this room, but for the money it was only an average value. They could improve that easily if they would add some value to the room rates (breakfast, etc.) I'd take the Embassy Suites over this in a heartbeat if it was within $20-30 and I was traveling with my whole family. My rating is really more like a 3.5, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt for a 4 versus a 3.

Room Tip: Elevators are quiet, so apart from the extra foot traffic being near them is less of a concern than in some other hotels.

Pros: One of the cleanest rooms I've stayed in. Property shows pride of ownership and is well maintained. Very strong (free) wireless internet and quiet rooms --could not hear noises from neighboring rooms nor trains two blocks away.

Cons: None
