If you like architecture, art, history, or politics the Nebraska State Capital is worth a visit, the rotunda, legislative chambers, law library, supreme court hearing rooms, and of course the view from the tower as well as the room with the murals up there. Should not visit nebraska without a tour of the Capitol.

Wasn't quite sure just what to expect but...WOW! We arrived before the first tour was to commence at 9am so we looked around for a bit. The first floor is dark and reminded me of being in a Visitor Center for a cave; low ceilings, grey interior, information circle in center of area, etc. The 2nd floor is where the amazing mosaics begin! The tours begin on the hour Mon-Fri at 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, then 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm.; Sat. and some Holidays at 10 am, 11 am, then 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm; Sundays at 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm. The tour office is at one end of the second floor so look for the sign.
The FREE tour is VERY informative and, among other interesting facts, points out the interesting mix of designs that incorporate native american and agriculture details .Make sure to look UP and DOWN. Totally worth the time!!
Take the elevator to the top to see the city from all 4 compass points. There is also a small gift shop for postcards, souvenirs, etc.

I've been out to the capitol before, but this time hubby and I decided to take the free tour, and I am only disappointed that we did not do it sooner. Tour guide was fabulous - we learned about all of the significance of the art, frescos, wall hangings, inscriptions - it was totally fascinating. When you see what is actually represented, it really brings home the history. I think we are now going to add "a visit to each state capitol" to our bucket list! You will not regret bringing your kids for this 30 minute tour.

The building located in the middle of lincoln city near university of nebraska lincoln.
The decoration inside the building was magnificent. Every detail have its own theme with some story line linked it. Every detail have its own design, even the lamp cap have its own meaning. Although the building is a government building, but they keep the maintenance was marvelous.
If you go to lincoln, you have to go to capitol tour with a very kindly tour guide.
