“Coming back after 15 years”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

More than 15 years have passed since we last stayed at this Resort, known as Desaru Impian then. Lotus Group is doing a great job in making this place come alive! To check-in, drive down the slope towards the lobby located nearer to the sea. If you are lucky to find a lot, you are able to park your car next to your block after you get your room. Free buggies were also available to bring guests around, as it is a big place with sloppy landscapes at some points. Waterpark is a small one but adequate to keep children thrilled and some adults busy. The pool (right in front of the gym) near the lobby has less adventure-actions but can be equally noisy.

The rooms were tired looking but were very clean. No sandy or oily floor! Bathrooms and toilets were dry and well-kept. Excellent housekeeping for a old property! The rooms surpassed our expectation! We bought drinks and chilled out in our rooms; it was a good decision as opposed to drinking at the beachfront bar in the nasty humidity and heat.

Now the not so good part: The resort was running full house when we were there. Judging from the specs of 700 rooms, there was easily an excess of 1,400 guests in the premise. Most places felt like warzones, crowded and rowdy. We pre-paid RM40nett each for a buffet dinner at Seaview Restaurant- this was the greatest mistake! For a while, we thought we were at a mass cook house at a student's camp or a canteen. People, people and people everywhere. We skipped the mutton curry as there were a few flies on it before us. We dragged to find out that this was the breakfast place, but had no choice as it was included in our room. The only saving grace was the good service by smiling staff and the crispy Roti Canai (Roti Prata).

This resort is worth visiting if the rates continue to remain as affordable as now. For those who have visited Downtown East Chalets in Singapore, this place is something similar but with less facilities, older, more spacious but a lot cheaper for a 3D/ 2N stay. Comparing to the Goldkist chalets at East Coast- this is definitely much better!!!!! We are planning for another group trip to Lotus Desaru- but we believe that going during the off-peak will be much more enjoyable!

Stayed near water park. Hubby absolutely loves the water park though he felt the coconut was somewhat similar to SG's water theme park concept.

Shuttle service around the resort was fast. Called for replacement of kettle but housekeeping did not turn up despite repeated calls. A note: to take own kettle. Floor in room is slippery, not safe for elderly. Advisable to wear anti-slip slippers. Room was ok, good view. Should have planned for fruit farm trip after reaching Tanjong Belungkor ferry terminal as they include lunch.

Food at Rhu Bar was good and decent though ex. Advisable to drive to Sungai Rengit to eat seafood at reasonable prices. Went to You Kee seafood restaurant, nice butter lobsters but the lady boss wasn't friendly and claimed that the kailan we ordered was out of stock when she served us with the wrong veggies. Subsequently we saw other table having kailan and we heard the family saying that they ordered another type of veggies. Going there once is enough unless you don't mind her attitude.

What's Good: Hugh resort, big rooms, nice water park for play, 2 swimming pools, many water sports activities available on site, ample parking space. Tram service carries people around resort. Overall, a nice simple weekend getaway.

What's Bad: Large crowds on weekends. Long waiting time checking in and out. Food from restaurant not value for money, and does not taste good.

We booked very last minute (Saturday morning) to have a short weekend away. We opted for the 2 bedroom apartment as we had 3 adults and 2 children (3 & 5). The apartment was spacious and clean. However, it was very tired looking and the towels were threadbare. For 1 night, it was fine.
We didn't realise how big the resort is. If you are looking for a quiet weekend, this definitely isn't the place to go, however if you want to be entertained and the kids to be happy then this place is great.
Waterpark: There is a large swimming pool, and a playground in a wading pool. There are several short slides going into the water, which the kids loved sliding on. One small slide which the kids can go on themselves and one large waterslide which you need to go on with children. The park was crazy busy, a little bit unnerving at times, but it didn't bother the kids. The large waterslide is loads of fun, we went on it numerous times with the kids, they couldn't get enough of it! We spent most of the morning in the park. Be aware that the waterslide is only open 9-12 and 3-6pm.
The beach was disappointing, it is very narrow and quite steep going into the water, so very little area for sand play. Also there is no shade until early afternoon so it's really too hot to hang out on the beach for too long (the sun is quite harsh). The area that gets shady first is where all the water sports are and we were asked not to play there whilst the sports were ongoing.
The water is clean enough. There is little rubbish. However I noticed in patches the sand was a little black from oil. But it wasn't too bad. The sand is soft and there are no rocks underfoot.
The little beach huts along the beach were great to chill out in.
On the Saturday the beach was manic with all the watersports, swimmers and families. However Sunday lunchtime onwards was very quiet and relaxing.

Food - we had the buffet breakfast. Loads of choice for all cultures. Not amazing but ok. Fruit selection was poor.
We ate at the Seafood Restaurant on the beach for all our other meals. Most meals were nice enough. The kids loved the satays and the noodles. The staff were helpful and attentive. Although they didn't come back to ask if we wanted a second drink, which I probably would have had. Prices were reasonable.

All in all it was a fun weekend. The kids had a ball and we had fun with the kids. As mentioned above, if you want a quiet time, don't come here. However if you want a cheap fun weekend with the kids, this could be an option.

We went there for a team bonding activities. The hotel management did arrange for a decent games for our group complete with a few staff to be our marshal. I absolutely love the room because it appear to be an apartment (I rented 1 room & they have 1,2 or 3 room apartment) where below is the living hall with a toilet, dining area, balcony, refrigerator with a small kitchen cabinet (no cooking allowed). Above you will find the big, comfortable bed complete with a big bathroom, dresser and cupboard.

I love the night scenery here, they have bars for those who drinks & their mini market have everything you need. They have parasailing, jet-ski or banana boat you can try. But for me the banana boat price it's a little expensive. Parasailing RM100 per person.

Food at the buffet was ok for me in term of taste but a lot of variety.. But please try the curry, their curry was superb. I did had a good dinner at one of the restaurant not sure which on (surely not the one that serve seafood) - food was good & price was suitable with the portion and the hotel.

It's a big hotel to walk all over the place... but don't fret they have shuttle every 5 - 7 minutes & the shuttle stop operating at 12am.

Room Tip: If you have kids ask for room near the theme park. But for me I prefer room near the swimming pool...

Love this place.. We’re here twice this year (1st trip in Feb, our room on 5th level @ Block A, overlooking the water theme park.. 2nd trip in April, got a room on 5th level, Block N, room overlooking an open field)..

On our 2nd trip, requested a room on upper floor @ Block A, unfortunately, its fully booked.. Since we wanted to have some privacy, we insisted on having a room on the upper floor, we got it @ Block N..

Note: On both trips, we requested for upper floor ( 5th level).. as we find that staying on 1st floor could be noisy, whenever people walked past your door or balcony as U might hear them talking, laughing & etc..

Do recommend this place for short getaway for couples and families.. Highest floor (5th level) overlooking the water theme park or swimming pool, probably good option..

Some photos, taken during our trip in April 2014..
