“Good fun for family with kids, 11th Aug 2012”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

We got a groupon deal for $95 per pax and $55 for child w/o bed. Includes coach from SG Flyer, desaru fruit farm tour, lunch buffet and fruit fiesta there, and 1N stay at Lotus Desaru. Arrived at the hotel at 3:15pm. Check-in was efficient. The buggy/shuttle service drove us and our luggage to our room at block G. It was a one bedroom suite, where the king-sized bed was on the mezzanine plus attached bathroom. Downstairs was a sofa, small TV with some astro channels, fridge and attached toilet (w/o shower or bath). Cleanliness is 2-3star and furniture old. The bed was ok though, and we shared it with our 3yo. However, though fun for kids, the stairs to the upstairs is pretty dangerous for toddlers or kids below 6 esp when coming down. My wife didn't sleep well because she was afraid our active son would roll off the bed and roll downstairs in the middle of the night. The air-conditioner wasn't cooling enough even though we set it to the coolest(16℃). The room temperature came to be about 25℃ which was quite warm when 3 of us shared a bed.
After we dropped our luggage, we went to the beach first. The sand there is coarse and the beach looks like it's been artificially filled. There are many watersports available nearby. The waves are quite strong during this period, making it really scary for our toddler. There was a bit of tar on the sand. Nevertheless, our son enjoyed playing with sand using the beach toys we brought along.
We went to the water park area after the beach. It was a fun place for both adults and our son. It basically has a long lazy river with pools of water everywhere, mini waterfalls and children water playground. The water is clear enough, however, bits of dry grass and small dead insects here and there. If you're looking for a cleaner pool for swimming, there is a separate swimming pool with kid's pool too nearer the beach.
We had the Ramadhan buffet dinner for RM38 per adult, FOC for our son. Food was ok, our son enjoyed the satay, briyani rice and some spicy meats (gulping down lots of water after each bite).
We had booked the firefly tour through the hotel during check-in. RM40 per adult and free for 3yrs and below (above 3yrs old RM25). However, from the coffeehouse to the lobby after dinner, we met with a traffic jam (some tourists drove in the wrong direction and took a long long long time to reverse his car out through the narrow one-way path, so our buggy was inching its way out). The tour had left without us after calling our room for 15min. We were utterly disappointed (at ourselves for not leaving dinner table 5mins earlier). We just sat around at the lobby hoping that some miracle would happen. We were about to leave after 45 min when the tour group came back. It was almost 9pm. We approached the drivers and asked them if they could take us still, and explained about the earlier traffic jam we'd met. The few drivers discussed among themselves, and after 15secs, they said "Ok. We go now." Imagine the delight on our faces when we heard that. And they did that at no extra charge! Now that's excellent service!
That night arriving at our hotel room, we found 2 cockroaches(one medium sized and one baby) scuttling about in the upstairs bathroom. They apparently live in the rotten wooden door frame of the bathroom. Yucks, but anyway, as I said, not super clean or new.
The next day, we had breakfast which was quite decent if you eat cereal with milk, or bread and croissants, porridge too. The noodles and rice were not to our liking.
After breakfast, we headed to the water park again for one last time before checking out 1pm (just dropkey as we had cleared our tour fees earlier) and going to the clubhouse bar for lunch. We ordered one pizza and 6 BBQ wings plus a watermelon juice. Food was decent enough, bill came to be RM65.
At 3:30pm, we left the hotel by coach.

The hotel room and facilities are just nice for weekender and suitable for family. The hotel is relatively well maintained. It was giving us a laid back feeling away from the city. The best feature of this hotel is its location that takes only an hour from Singapore to arrive!

There is a clean and nice swimming pool separating from the themed water park. I think the water in the water park is somewhat dirty as they allow the guest to get in the water park with cloth on. In the evening the water is kind of dirty so we decided to skip the water park and get in the cleaner and more subtle swimming pool.

The most disappointing thing is the beach. The beach is dirty with grayish sand and brownish water that I didn't even want to walk bare-feet on the beach. It is such a shame for a beach hotel to have dirty beach.

Let me start off by saying that this is the best place to stay in Desaru. But do not expect a 5 star service and accommodation standard and you will not be disappointed.

Lotus Desaru is an apartment-styled resort without the frills or room service. The cleanliness of the rooms are bearable but be prepared to accept that the furniture and fittings are a bit worn out and tired looking. The restaurants only serve buffet styled meals there and if you want ala-carte food, go to Rhu Bar. The nearest recommended eating places would be Jade Garden Seafood Restaurant or Good Luck Restaurant which is about 30 mins drive / 30km away.

They have kids club, ping pong tables, mini arcade, beach activities, paint ball, target shooting, water theme park, Indian-inspired spa (from Kerala, India), bbq and many more activities to keep you occupied.

Nearby attractions include a fruit farm and petting mini zoo (great fun for the kids), ostrich farm, firefly tour and fishermen's museum.

Some of the staff are quite nice but don't expect a high level of service here. On weekends, they will set up a small funfair playground for the kids where there is a clown, juggler, magician... your kids will surely enjoy it. Parents can enjoy the spa.

This is our second trip here and we will definitely be back. Thank you Mr Pillai and Krishna for your help. And we had fun with the (team-bonding) treasure hunt game organized by a nice Malay chap whom I forgot to ask his name.

Dont think after reading this review just book this resort, its acctually condominium concept, they have 1, 2 & 3 bedroom suites. I was here on a work purpose, walked in and it was Monday the 30/7/2012, got my 1 room unit for USD 64.00 which includes the breakfast and the buffet dinner at Teratai Coffee House for two paxs ( Their varieties of food for dinner is just uncountable- A Must do no regrets), they have a big water park and beach is just 3 minute walk away, they also have buggey services if you are lazy to walk.

AT night a must do is sit by the beach cos the hotel have provided enough lighting system for the beach area and thier RHU Bar is not bad as well. Free benches to enjoy the chill wind. Drinks and food was way to cheap for me, compare to places i have been.

Also bumb into the resort owner he is a Dato' and he was dressed so simple.. Did not approach him, he was busy with some contractors Chinese contractor... Anyway Hi Owner :)

Room Tip: Higher floors are less nosier on a weekend :)

Nicest resort on desaru .

GOOD IF YOU DRIVE, BAD and boring if you dont.
- U can travel down south to Ostrich Farm ($15rm) nice place with 300+ ostrich - Si Wan Dao restorans , recommend crystal jade restoran there . $35rm for 1 fried rice , 1 tofu , 1 cereal prawns ***
- Safe resort among the rest (creepy looking)
- Sightseeing around the EAST COAST ROADS is the best highlight actually. TAke a slow drive down south along the 21km coastline on a bright sunny day. Stop in between and enjoy the soft sands with the locals. ( not sure why but sands at PULAI and LOTUS are very very ROUGH. worse than sentosa.

BAD
- SOFA IS BAD DIRTY N MOLDY.
- Definitely not worth the money IF you travel there by BUS. coz you cant travel around the area.
- Called room service 3 times before they brought my new towels. :(
- WIFI is stupid , the bandwidth is too small n slow. 1MB ??
- WATERPARK cannot even compare to wild wild wet. ITS BASICALLY ONE LONG SLIDe .

Room Tip: room in F n G are best even number rooms facing the pool waterpark !

Lotus Desaru could satisfy the thirst of every age in one family. My husband and I visited the spa; the Indian oil massage was impressive and very relaxing. While we were there for an hour, my 10 year old son had a good time with PS2 and the video games in the kids club. The family joined back for a cool ice crushed drinks with pizza and Indian style fried chicken at the Rhu Bar. The next morning we had a vibrant splash and fun at the theme park. The buffet dinner and breakfast brought me back to India for a moment. Though, it had a variety of taste covering the Chinese, Indian, Malay and the western cuisine. The rooms, bath and facilities are very clean and well kept. Good Job Lotus, will visit you again.

Lotus resort reminded me of mass residential apartment. The building, the lift and the rooms are so unlike a resort. Once you check in, there will be no porter to help you to your room. It is a self service. The water theme park is huge but is very, very crowded. Food served during the breakfast would satisfy Asian palates. The restaurant served roti canai/prata, Nasi lemak, porridge, fried mi hoon and other typical food like bread, cereals, fruits and eggs when I was there. Lower your expectation stay in lotus. It is not a typical hotel/resort. The standard is much lower. But then again, you do not much choice in Desaru. It may well be the best hotel in the area.
