“Not worth going anymore!!”
Reviewed June 11, 2011

I've been to this resort for at least 5-6 times since 2yrs ago till now. i dont deny the staffare friendly except for a couple of them from the Coffee House ... my last tr ip was Dec 2010 and this trip is in June 2011.. it was a disappointing trip for me. arrived on 10th June and check in was fast and was given a room G505 which is at the 4th floor...i use to stay at the first floor in blk E or F...

Water heater not working (hot water tap but after 15mins water still cold) and bathtub was choke.... there is a drilling sound when room next door on their tap i called up their housekeeping and they told me that its the water pressure sigh.....

Went to the coffee house to have lunch and they indian cashier told me they only serve buffet lunch and no a-la-carte.... but my kids cant take spicy so no choice went for their buffet lunch and after almost finish i saw 2 tables are ordering a-la-carte.. i went up to their manager who looks like a chinese and make a complaint he just listen and do nothing about it.... i think its unfair cos my kids only eat the butter prawns and some veg which is non spicy.... and they charge us for plain water as well sigh....

their main attraction the Lazy River is not mantain at all so dirty was the water and murky... even their float also need to charge a rental fees....

I might not go back again cos almost everything they charge ie .. water, float, etc.... which all these was not chargeable when i went there for the past few times.... i also paid 15 rm for Wifi access which i cant even log on after many tries and finally it log on i surt less then 10 mins was cut off again... i told thier staff and they waied off the fees for me..

pls think twice before u guys wanna book these resort.

We were there last week for 2 nites. Our first impression was delightful with room facing the water park. Later we realised that the air cond in one of the room was not functioning and upon calling the maintenance, the problem was still not fixed. We ended up sleeping in a stuffy room for 2 nites.

We were pleased with the facilities like the water park and the club house. The food was not so bad altho not that variety. We enjoyed playing with the lighting toys at nite in front of the club house with the rest of the guests.

Upon cheking out, I requested for a discount because of the faulty air cond and after much hassle, they gave me 10% discount and the owner, who dressed like other staff was kind enough to offer apology and offer us a breakfast voucher altho we already have.

All in all, other than the air cond, the stay was a pleasure.

Wonderful Place, Food was great. We actually went back to Lotus for our dinner on our subsequent stay to the nearby resort.

My friends and I decided to spend a relaxing weekend at the Lotus Desaru after reading some good reviews about the resort, but ended up experiencing one of our worst holidays ever.

Taking the ferry from Singapore, we experienced delays at the Changi Ferry Terminal - from the counter at which we collected our boarding passes which opened twenty minutes late, to the ferry which set sail forty minutes late. Arriving at Desaru, the shuttle bus which was to take us on a one-hour journey to the resort was also slow in setting off and had several seats which were broken. At the resort, there was again a long queue for checking in. But this is understandable given that it was the school holidays.

The resort is quite big with 700 rooms and I guess it must be quite difficult to maintain. However, there can be no excuse for the shock of being greeted by cobwebs on the ceiling, dust everywhere, an old and faded sofa, the sole chair in the room having cracked and badly stained upholstery, a dirty kettle and widespread brown stains in the bathtub, sinks and toilet bowls. The biggest shock was that there were big black clumps of what looked like insect droppings inside the room lining the balcony and side windows. It was obvious that the living room area had not been cleaned for weeks.

We called for housekeeping and the staff did the best they could to remove the insect droppings and cobwebs. However, we were still uncomfortable after the surface cleaning of the living room area and were unsure about the other aspects of cleanliness, eg. whether the bedsheets have been recently changed. We checked out and caught the first ferry back.

I would not recommend a special trip to this resort, although I must say that the staff are very helpful and friendly. The cost of a room at RM 300+ per night is also not within budget range to make the standards acceptable.

- Got a one-bedroom apartment, room was spacious but smelt bit murky and dusty. Didn't make a fuss over it as you get what you pay for.

- Ambience at the Rhu bar was excellent but the menu spread could be improved. Limited choices of food - pizza/ pasta mostly, and no finger food! There is only one other restaurant at the resort that opens at 7pm and another that only serves buffet (spread didn't seem too enticing either).

- Beach exceeded my expectations-- I'd previously read that Desaru was a run-down place with dirty beach-- but I was pleasantly surprised. Of course it is no Bali or Phuket but water was fairly clear and nice for swimming. The jetski also seemed very popular with guests

- Good amenities, 2 swimming pools (as I counted, could be more) and 1 water park for kids. However, I noticed that everything else from the karaoke to the gym to the internet room came with a charge!!! Can't remember the exact charges but was enough to put me off.

- Staff were friendly but need more training. Check-in was slow , reception staff seemed lost.

Overall, despite the few kinks I'd say the Lotus is good for Desaru standards.
