“Amazing Steak”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

Wow what can I say, probably one of the BEST steaks I have ever had , wanted it medium rare and exactly how I got it. The Talkhouse has a new proprietor and what a nice chap he was, the hardest part of the evening was trying to pay !

“If you can make it at home... then stay there!”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

Visited on the back of hearing there was a new landlord... the main attraction was that it was dire and managed before and maybe there was hope at last. In relation to my visit and the landlord's comment it is fair to say "if it is as good as you can make at home, then why pay someone else to make it". The whole point of dining out and in particular pubs advertising that they are gastro style is that there is an element of innovation and creativity, flair and character embedded into the dishes. The scallops for starter were tiny and for the price was overstated and under delivered. Execution is everything, main of mussels was strange as it missed real flavour and 'beard trimmings' if that is what they can be called existed in the remaining tasteless residue.
Sorry but you need to go back to the drawing board or chef school!

“Not worth it, poor service and food to match.”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Not worth the money. Given the lunch menu only to be told they were only offering the Sunday menu - so had to go and rethink. Fish dish was expensive and the prawns just thawed, wet and tasteless. Staff were poorly organised and lacked good customer service. Avoid at all cost.

“Pretty good.”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

I was a bit nervous about the previous reviews but decided to book a table for 7 anyway as it was the right price and location for us. The pub itself is really charming and well kept. The service we received was good and all the food was very nice and promptly served. Only gripe about the food was that there was Orange in the chocolate brownie! Yuck! But would certainly visit again.

“Very disappointing and not worth the money”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

Went with some friends to this restaurant which is in a nearby village because we had heard there was a new manager. In summary, the food was appalling and expensive. My fish assortment (termed pescatore something and served on a log slice!) consisted of a couple of slices of inferior smoked salmon, a tiny ramekin of soggy prawns ( the kind you buy in the supermarket freezer counter), some deep fried octopus (3 or 3 rings) and a little pan of fried whitebait . There were two ramekins - one with a pale, tasteless oil and the other with some bottled tasteless sauce. And a hunk of baguette . No herbs or other vegetable matter for relief. The other meals looked similarly unappetising - sausages that had been microwaved and then stuck on a grid iron for a second or two. Potato mash that looked as though it had been whisked up out of a bag. I can think of nothing good to say about the food and it was expensive . Needless to say the wines were poor and overpriced.
