Have read all of the recent reviews on here and quite frankly I am sure the negative ones stayed somewhere else! yes upon arrival I have to say we were a little disappointed with the outside appearance, but its a different world inside, Lovely welcoming greeting, yes it was a steep and narrow stairway to the room but its a very old character property and simply added to the charm, a lift would ruin it. Beautiful room 4 poster bed, lovely décor, plenty of tea, coffee ,biscuits, red and white wine and a box of chocolate and even a family of ducks in the bath! lovely attentive staff nothing was too much trouble. Evening meal was excellent, large portions, hot and fresh cooked. Breakfast an all you can eat buffet, with masses of choice to suit everyone, again hot, fresh and excellent service. Hotel was very busy with an 18th birthday party, if you are looking for a totally peaceful stay then check if anything is on first as being an old building the disco could be heard, however it was not excessive and did stop at a reasonable hour.

It is really hard to find a downside to this hotel............apart from fellow guests who had the most badly behaved children ever............but this is certainly not the fault of the hotel owner who did speak to the parents of the children, the owner had far more patience than me as I would have taken the bow from the violin the child was playing (extremely badly) and shoved it where the sun doesn't shine part of the obnoxious father who let his children run riot!.

This hotel is different, full of character, lovely attentive staff, Try it, you will not be disappointed.

I would urge owner to consider making the beautiful old courtyard part of hotel for over 12s only.

Room Tip: Room 21 absolutely delightful, 4 poster beautifully presented, comfy and everything you could think of supplied.

A minute away from the main road but no traffic can be heard, a perfect location.

Great accommodation and a friendly welcome. Lots of nice touches to enhance the experience.

Great value for money - highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

thank you to Jason and all the staff at Judds, we had our wedding here and it couldn't have gone better, the day way perfect, the service was spot on and very welcoming, we recommend this as a wedding venue to anyone as the value is brilliant and you would be hard pushed to find some where with not only quality food and drink but also quality of service. our room was lovely and we would recommend anyone to stay here. we look forward to returning for lunch some time soon :) keep up the good work guys, its definitely worth it and we appreciated you all for making our day run as smoothly as it did.

This hotel is no folly!

I booked a room the day before, while travelling in France, and had no great expectations. When we arrived in the pouring rain, after an 8 hour drive and a ferry crossing, the lady on reception was lovely, helpful and quick to check us in.

We had booked two double, interconnecting rooms, and they are great. Have doors to the outside and could park my car outside my room. The rooms are large, well designed and furnished. After the bed in the gite...this was luxury!

The evening meal in the restaurant was another happy surprise. The lamb was very tasty and finished the meal with a peach Eton Mess which was a small portion of yummy.

Breakfast was huge...served to order (full engish), lots of choices. I'd never eat that much at home but really good, so couldn't resist.

Thank you to all the staff, very friendly and helpful. I was impressed that as we checked out we let the reception know that a bulb had gone in one room during our stay, and a gentleman went straight out and replaced it before I'd driven away!

I recommend this hotel and will stay again if ever in the area.

Hope your folly goes from strength to strength :)

As already echoed by other reviewers, this is a diamond in the rough.
We arrived for a wedding, and will admit the outer first appearance was not inspiring. But the was quickly washed away by the smiles and genuine friendliness of the staff. During the pre wedding, we made slight alterations to the menu. This was accomplished without hesitation. The food was outstanding, and the rooms were great.
I would have no hesitation I recommending the Judd hotel, to anyone who is looking for good value
