“Second G. Max's in one day! Less satisfactory than the first.”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

Grandma Max's are attached to the Pilot series of truck stops along I-80 in Nebraska. This one was not as good as the facility in Big Springs, although the place at least was quiet! This time the food was only fair, quality ok, but not well cooked. Well, ya gotta eat!

“Truck stop, what can I say?”
Reviewed June 19, 2012

Grandma Max's definitely serves good sized portions. It's basic, hearty food, pretty well prepared and served. The day we were there, the service was good. The buffet looked unappetizing and expensive. The meals weren't cheap, but there was plenty to eat. My 15 y/o appetite on legs couldn't finish his double cheeseburger thing, which was really two cheeseburgers stacked on top of each other. Definitely OK, but I sure wouldn't call it fine dining!

“Food is okay and atmosphere is poor”
Reviewed March 10, 2012

Grandma Max's in Grand Island is in a very large truck stop and truck drivers are their main customers. Meals are served on long tables. There are other Grandma Max's at all Bosselman truck stops, which are many.

“Good Thanksgiving buffet”
Reviewed November 27, 2011

This was our third year for their Thanksgiving buffet. Turkey, fried chicken, carved ham and beef, stuffing, beef and chicken gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, green beans corn, gravy, I think two soups (I didn't look to verify), green salad with several topping choices and pasta salads. Desserts, too. Not a long wait to seat three, attentive server, crowd ebbed and flowed. No regrets.

“Okay in a pinch”
Reviewed September 14, 2011

Since we missed the restaurant hours at our motel, we tried Grandma Max's thinking that truck stops usually have great food and snappy service. Not so much here. The server herself was quite good but the support she received from her co-workers was awful. Pay attention to the patrons, people! The food was okay but not the quality we expected. We did notice, however, that most of the truckers took advantage of the buffet so maybe that's where they put their emphasis.
