We spent Monday, May 20th, at the historic Argo hotel and we hope that we'll get another opportunity. The hotel has been charmingly redecorated and contains many period nuances. We had a suite, which is simply two of the originally small rooms combined into a bedroom and sitting area, a lovely and quite large bathroom, and a balcony. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed chatting with the owner and her brother. The price was incredibly low....and the value was high for this relaxing visit to the Argo.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Historic Argo Hotel was built in 1912 to serve the railroad traffic of the time. It is located in the heart of Crofton, a small town in northeastern Nebraska on Hwy 12, also known as the Outlaw Trail. It is near Lewis and Clark Lake and Recreation Area on the Missouri River. The hotel has been restored back to its former grandeur. The exterior of this brick bed and breakfast is reminiscent of hotels of the early 1900s. Inside, transom windows over the doors, metal ceilings and a large oak staircase add to the periodic charm. Go back in time to the 1900's and imagine travelers coming into town by train from Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul who were then picked up by stagecoach or horse-drawn wagon to be taken to their final destination. Indulge yourself with a stay here and enjoy a taste of history. The Victorian-style rooms on the upper floor are decorated with antiques but have modern amenities. They feature free Wi-Fi, cable TV, air-conditioning and private bathrooms. All suites provide sitting areas, while most have Jacuzzi tubs and some offer full living rooms or balconies. Enjoy a delicious hot breakfast in the morning after a relaxing night's sleep. Doc's Bar and the Leslie Brooks Dining Room are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with menu items including steak, chicken, seafood and pasta. ... more less
