Ptarmigan Village

We stayed here in August and found it very enjoyable. The rental unit had two bedrooms on the first floor and living space on second floor. Lots of space. Very clean and quite. One of the best parts was the newer pool and hot-tub that we used almost every evening. They also had nice tennis courts. It is about 1/2 way between whitefish town and the big mountain, which I like since it gets you out of the business a bit, but only about 10 minutes away. They have their own private beach a few miles away or you can go to the City beach which is beautiful. Only a short way up the road is the ski resort, even in the summer there is lots to do there including zip lining. For the money, a great place for the family.

Room Tip: We liked the 2-bedroom for our family. However there are also cute loft units that I think would be...

The Ptarmigan Village is exactly as advertised - a quiet, relaxing village in the woods with a superb swimming pool and very spacious rooms. There seemed to always be deer roaming the grounds or, on several occasions, right out front of our unit - which was fun. The location is also great if you plan to use the Whitefish Mountain Resort. We were debating between the Ptarmigan and another resort in Columbia Falls and I will say we feel extremely fortunate we chose the Ptarmigan. The Ptarmigan is a good 40-minute drive to Glacier National Park, but staying near the ski resort and downtown Whitefish is well worth it, IMO.

Yes, the winding staircases are a bit of a challenge, but we managed. That said, we are in our late 30s and our kids are less than 10, so I can understand how those stairs might be difficult for others. I will admit, even I slipped a few times going down. In our 3BR Yellowstone unit, there are two sets up stairs - one up to the loft and one to the basement (loft is 1BR, then 2BRs downstairs).

A few other notes. Check-in was very easy, didn't take more than five minutes. You can easily park right out front of your building. There is no internet in the room but it's available at the pool and laundry. Which leads me to point out, there is no washer & dryer in the unit. It's not really a complaint, but I would like to have internet and laundry in the unit, it's just so much more convenient (although maybe it's a blessing when you are on vacation). We didn't use the fireplace (or firewood) and we didn't grill on the deck (a bit chilly yet), but these are also nice amenities.

In the end, I'd definitely recommend the Ptarmagin, it really was a great place to stay.

We stayed at Ptarmigan Village (www.vrbo/199676) from 8/21 - 8/31 for a planned vacation to Glacier National Park. The condo was fantastic and the pictures on the web site were accurate. The amenities included outdoor pool, indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, fishing pond, tennis court, hiking trails. We especially enjoyed the hot tub after hiking at Glacier National Park. Whitefish, where the condo is located, is a beautiful city. We especially enjoyed the Farmers Market every Tuesday evening. The condo and the city of whitefish is an excellant place to stary if you will be in this area of Montana.

Just back from a weekend getaway. We have a friend who owns a place here so he let us stay free. I must say, even if we had to pay it would have been worth it! Outdoor pool with sauna, indoor pool and hot tub, park, laundry, the list is endless. It's hidden and quiet and just so peaceful. I would recommend for anyone who wants to go and relax for a weekend or a week to consider staying here. Only downside is no store on sight but if you just remember to stop at store before heading back, shouldn't be a problem. Definetly hoping I can stay again......for free! :)

Room Tip: Choose room close to either outdoor or indoor pool, depending on which one you like. They are reall...

This place is quiet, relaxing and an excellent choice. We stayed in 118 Bear Creek next to the indoor pool/outdoor hot tub/sauna. The pool area was well maintained and clean. We did a RCI exchange for a three bedroom unit for two couples for a week in July. Check-in was easy and the staff was very accommodating. The unit was well stocked and very clean. The unit had three levels, two bedrooms on the first floor with a bathroom, kitchen/living room with bathroom accessed by stairs from the parking area and another loft area in the upper level. The main level living area included an outside deck with BBQ grill, table & chairs. We sat on the deck in the evening surrounded by trees. The three levels were accessed by a spiral staircase. The staircase could be a problem for anyone with a handicap. Laundry facilities were nearby. The Village is near downtown Whitefish with many great restaurants, a farmer's market and many shops. It is just below the Big Mountain Ski Resort area.

What a great resort in the mountains of Montana. We stayed in unit 55 of Kicking Horse, very well maintained and loaded with many amenities that you see in 5 star resorts. Granite counter tops, newer appliances, modern main floor bathroom. We came to this resort with friends and flipped a coin for the master bedroom. Master bedroom is very spacious, the loft was not really accessible, you get into it by a steep ladder and had 2 single beds. The hidabed in the living room was so poor we had to take the comforters from the loft to make it useable. Overall a nice unit for a family with kids but using the hidabed in the living room takes up a lot of space and it is a pain to close it up very day. This should be a 1 bedroom with loft unit.

We really enjoyed the unit we stayed in at Ptarmigan Village. We were in a loft unit in the Sawtooth building.
The unit was decorated really well, and had everything we needed. It was quiet and relaxing, but close to Big Mountain resort and the town of Whitefish (cute town, but lots of road construction at this time)

The deck was a good size and we were able to sit out and enjoy the cool mountain air and listen to the birds.

We would stay here again when we visit this area.

Room Tip: The pool is a distance so if you have kids, this would be a consideration.

Located only 35 miles from Glacier National Park, we are a great location for staging your NW Montana adventures. Our amenities include:a new pool building that includes an indoor salt water swimming pool, a large outdoor hot tub and a dry sauna. Next to the pool building is a playground for children. In summer, our outdoor pool is perfect for relaxing or you can take a drive down to our beach on Whitefish Lake where you can take a swim and revel in a gorgeous sunset. Hiking is right out your door with 52 acres to roam. We have two newly resurfaced tennis courts if you want to get in a game. Elmer's Pond is stocked with trout each spring for children to try their luck. We have a variety of one, two and three bedroom condominiums for rent and also offer RCI exchanges. We have a beautiful Alpine village setting and condos that were crafted in the 1970's and 1980's - most have been updated to provide wonderful accommodations. PLEASE NOTE: all condominiums have stairs or spiral staircases to the bedrooms and lofts (if equiped). Also note that during the winter you are advised to have all-wheel drive, we plow our roads daily, but you will encounter winter driving conditions this close to the ski slopes! A laundromat is situated in the center of the village and wifi is available there and at the indoor pool building. We hope to see you soon. ... more   less
