We just returned from our 1st trip to Whitefish and our stay at the Good Medicine Lodge. This B&B was nice and I think what makes it stand out from probably any other lodging in Whitefish is Woody the owner. He made us feel very welcome and always available to have a friendly conversation… he also provided us with excellent recommendations for dining out. You can tell he has a love and passion for running this B&B and is very proud of it and very proud to live in Montana.

We stayed in the Tamarack room and it was ‘OK’… it was clean but it was a bit on the small side and on the main level… if we were to stay here again we would definitely choose a room on the 2nd floor as we were woken up several times to the sounds of thump thump thump from the room above us. This started at approx. 6:30 in the morning and at one point I said to my husband ‘are they moving furniture up there?’ as the thumps changed to bangs. There is also no TV in the room, which I understand as you are supposed to be getting away from it all… but I do like to watch the news and fall asleep to the TV at night, it’s not a deal breaker for me but it is a personal preference that I like to have a choice of. Also, there was no hairdryer in the room… which surprised me as most Hotels and upper scale B&B’s provide hairdryers now.

Wifi was sporadic – most of the time it was a bit slow. We mentioned it once to Woody and he reset something on the tower – but it only made a difference for a short while. We did not mention it again as we were only there for a couple of nights and just used the internet for checking our e-mails.

Breakfast was very good – the portions are a bit smaller but we are 100% OK with that as we do prefer quality over quantity and it was definitely quality! It started with a nice fruit plate, then fresh muffin and the main entrée. It was nice to sign up and place your order the night before, you have 3 different choices for the main entrée and they change daily so you always have something new to choose from. Also, they have restaurant style seating so you can keep to yourself or have a conversation with another guest if you choose, we liked that option.

I felt Happy Hour was nice treat before heading out for dinner. You have a selection of White or Red Wine, a choice from approx. 4 different beers, or Sparkling Soda. They also had some limited appetizers out… the smoked trout we had on the 1st night was delicious…. Again, we thought this was a very nice touch that goes over and above a regular B&B.

Location was very good… at first we thought it was a bit far away from the town but realized it was only a 15 minute walk. We did this on our 2nd night so we could go and enjoy dinner and a drink in town and not worry about driving home. We definitely felt safe walking to/from the Lodge into town, there is a sidewalk on the other side of the street all the way to downtown so you did not have to worry about cars on the highway.

All and all Good Medicine Lodge is a Good bed and breakfast and a Good choice for Whitefish.

Room Tip: If possible choose a room on the 2nd floor

My husband and I had a short but pleasant one night stay at Good Medicine Lodge. The lodge was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. The bed was comfy and the room quiet. We didn't have the provided breakfast (we had to get on the road early), but we did enjoy the wine and appetizers the evening of our arrival. We enjoyed them outside on the patio surrounded by well tended gardens. It was a nice, relaxing start to our vacation after a day of long flights and flight delays. We also got an excellent recommendation for dinner-- Ciao Mambo.

What can I say? My husband and I LOVED our experience at Good Medicine Lodge. Proprietors Woody and Betsy are perfectly lovely hosts at this absolutely charming B&B. The room was extremely comfortable and well-appointed (note: no TV but who cares? This is Montana...go outside!), the bathroom (we were on the second floor) had a beautiful skylight that lent to an open, airy feeling. Super comfortable bed, all supremely spotless. Breakfast was out of this world (try the Montana Morning if it's available when you're there) and the coffee/tea/homemade cookie bar was a treat all day long. We weren't there in the early evenings (still out hiking) but I believe they have wine and snacks around 4ish (don't quote me on that, though...). All around, a wonderful, beautiful place to stay when in Whitefish. We wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Second floor has skylights. Very nice. :)

The single element (beauty of Glacier National Park aside) that made our trip to Montana most enjoyable was the impeccable bed and breakfast, Good Medicine Lodge. Due to changing availability, we had the good fortune of staying in 3 of the different rooms/suites, and there was not a loser among them. The tiniest distraction was a bit of a noisy air condition in the room we stayed in on our very first night (double bed), but that was truly the ONLY tiny miscue in all our 5-6 nights there. We then moved to a king bedroom with a balcony overlooking the lush and inviting backyard; that suite had a delightful reading room as well. Finally, we occupied a two-bedroom suite, which was roomy and very up to date. You will NOT find finer hosts. Organization and friendliness are hallmarks. 3 gourmet offerings for a sumptuous breakfast can be chosen from the night before, as well as the time one desires a seating. In the evening, superb and upscale appetizers with complimentary wine or sparkling juice are offered. We enjoyed ours each evening in the private and lush backyard. Restorative, energizing, relaxing...all sounds like "Good Medicine" to us!

This lodge was cozy and the food was amazing. We loved the cookies, the incredible 3-course breakfasts, and the wine and appetizers. The hot tub was lovely after an active day as were the common areas and our bedroom was quiet and very comfortable. The location is great (within walking distance of the restaurants/shops in town). The owners were friendly and very helpful. We absolutely loved our stay and would happily return.

I selected this B%B based on the reviews on TA, and I am glad I did as those reviews were right on. You are paying a lot for the amenities, and we found Whitefish to be on the expensive side. But let's talk about those amenities: a comfortable bed, a delicious breakfast (small portions but you can supplement from a cold bar with granola, yoghurt, bread), cozy sitting areas, a hot tub with fire pit, inexpensive and convenient laundry, a happy hour with snacks, a separate TV/DVD room, knowledgeable advice on Glacier NP and Whitefish, and, yes, cookies. To me, well worth it.

We stayed with two other couples on our journey through the Canadian Rockies to Glacier Park Montana, which is about 45 minutes away from Whitefish. Whitefish itself has a downtown with a variety of good restaurants to choose from for Dinner.

This B&B was fabulous. Very comfy accommodations and delicious breakfasts! There is also an endless supply of 3 varieties of freshly baked cookies. We all bought their cookbook.

When you look up the word ‘Hospitality’ in the dictionary, Betsy and Woody’s picture will be next to it. Thanks Danielle for your part as well. Good Medicine Lodge has been selected for National Geographic Traveler Magazine's "Stay List" of B&B’s in North America.

Finally, we forgot some luggage the morning we left and Woody took the time to deliver it to Fed Ex and have it shipped to us. Just an incredible B&B.
