Describes itself as world class but the rest of the world may disagree. The menu is far too complicated, the wine list is too long and expensive without any tasting notes. The waiters are overbearing and only seem to want to show off and the chef has delusions of grandeur. The locals seem to think that it's good which must say something about the quality of the restaurants in Whitefish.

While we take extra care any time a guest has a less than positive experience with us, this review is tough to digest considering the direct inclinations it seems to suggest.

We respectively disagree with the comments expressed here, especially with regards to the insulting comments regarding the staff and the perspective of the Restaurant itself.

We realize we are not going to please everyone and we are truly sorry that you did not enjoy your dining experience with us. With all do respect, the rest of the "world", specifically the majority of TripAdvisor, seems to not align with your perspective shared.

Our wine list contains around 250 selections, currently including 20 bottles priced below $35. Tasting notes are something that our service staff and wine stewards take great pride in providing a guest, specifically with relation to a certain palate or budget, whatever the occasion warrants.

One of the great things about Whitefish and the Restaurants located here, are the many options existing, most chef owned or locally operated, creating a vibrant community with an array of cuisine choices and price levels. And speaking on behalf of the majority of the Restaurant owners here, we believe this contributes to the uniqueness of this small town.

The menu we offer at Cafe Kandahar includes several a la carte dishes, as well as a 5, 7, or 11 multi-course tasting menu, with an emphasis on local and regional ingredients. From a simple Caesar Salad to a Elk Roulade, or through our tasting menus; it is our intent to offer both a classic and modern interpretation on foods and techniques, respectively. Focusing on the seasonality of ingredients used, our menu changes nightly to reflect this philosophy. Most see it for what it is, a commitment to quality, related to product, flavor, and ultimately, impact.

The food was fabulous - interesting and creative, and beautifully prepared. The dishes are overpriced.

The wine list is very overpriced. There are a lot if selections but very few for under $50/bottle. A good wine list should have some flexibility in the pricing ranges. This one does not. We had a very nice Pinot Noir with our meat entrees but hard to justify the cost.

The atmosphere is not interesting. It is just a simple room with about 10 tables. Not elegant, no view - not special.

If you want a great meal without regard to cost, this is a great choice. If you want a great meal with far better value, find a good choice in downtown Whitefish. There are s few to choose from.

We enjoyed the knowledgable waitstaff, the pairings of wine with our dinner and the overall attention to detail. Superb.

We stayed 3 nights at Kandahar Lodge and had the pleasure of dining in the cafe all three nights. Food was memorable. We each tried a different dish each night and all were excellent. They work with area farmers to provide the best of goods, farm to table, which I applaud. Everything was totally fresh. Service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is charming and welcoming, it is not a large restaurant; reservations are essential. Their duck confit, frisee, goat cheese, with champagne -truffle vinaigrette with pine nuts was outstanding so was the Sturgeon, Meyer Lemon, dungeness crab. Everything we tried was outstanding. They also have a creative and fun cocktail list created at the restaurant, not to be missed. Their wine list is quite good; the Cafe has won The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 1998 and Wine Enthusiast Award of Unique Distinction since 2004. This restaurant is not to be missed.

Who knew? We came to Whitefish Mountain for a summer getaway and while we've always loved the Kalispell area, I've always thought it had good, simple food, but not necessarily 4 or 5 star cuisine. Until now. We arrived late and our only option without going back into town was Cafe Kandahar, so we gave it a shot. What a wonderful, unexpected treat. White linen dining, in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Tasting menus along with extensive 3 course ala carte menus gave us a great selection. I went with the grilled asparagus salad and creamy polenta. The salad was full of tender asparagus, wrapped in prosciutto atop a bed of steamed greens and nuts. Drizzled with a tomato broth/oil. Wonderful. The polenta was topped with cauliflower, mushrooms, brussels sprouts and kalamata olives and was so warm and invitiing, I savored every bite. My husband had the roasted chicken atop parsnip puree; it must have been good as he offered nary a bite to me! Our friend had the salmon atop creamy arborio rice; his review was a rave as well. Definitely going back before we head home. Nice wine list and friendly staff. Be prepared for bit of a lengthy description of each and every item as they truly construct each item as an experience. It is a bit pricey but it's well worth it. Mountain resort restaurants are usually expensive, having a captured audience, and the fare has never been this spectacular. Congratulations to chef Andy Blanton for a winner.
