“The "GREATEST"”
Reviewed October 3, 2010

We are native Montanans that return regularly to the Flathead/Glacier Park area, We have stayed in most all of the areas Motels and Lodges..Our stay last Friday night could not have been any better. The customer service and accommodations were excellent. A few of the employees to be commended are Stace, Kayla, and Kaile.. We will be back soon....
Thank you.

We reserved a studio loft with kitchen. When we arrived the st;udio only had a microwave and wet bar. They gave us a 2 bedroom condo facing the lake. What a great condo we loved it. fireplace kitchen patio facing lake what a great place to stay.

When we drove up, I was excited. The lodge is beautiful and well appointed. There is a lovely fire in both the rotunda and in the reception area. However, I guess I have high expectations for a $350.00 a night room. Upon checking in, we found out we had been "upgraded" to a room with a king size bed - but it overlooked the area where you drive up to check in or get valet. All weekend we were disturbed by the sound of motorcycle engines revving and loud people. 3:00 a.m had very loud partiers in the hallway - not what I'd expect from a highly rated and expensive hotel.

I had the misfortune of coming down with an intestinal bug and had to stay put for one day. I was very dismayed to find upon waking in the early evening that our neighbors could, and WERE, peering right into our room at our bed from the balcony if every curtain was not closed tight.

Our room was nice, but I was puzzled by the large kitchen with nothing to serve with. Appointed with a microwave and refrigerator, it held nothing but coffee cups and two wine glasses - we had to ask housekeeping for plates, silverware and even napkins. Why put in a kitchen at all? Our bed was a good 30 feet from the 27" t.v., and it was not a plasma. Lastly, the bathroom is very poorly designed. It looks very modern, but try using the sinks to wash your face and you end up hitting your head on the fixtures that protrude way too far out. There is little counter space for a couple and their toiletries. The shower fixtures are bizarre in their attempt to be "modern" - so much so that management had to post instructions inside the shower on how to use them. The shower is very tight as well. The bathtub is not a jacuzzi tub, and it should be for $350.00 a night.

When we decided to avail ourselves of the pool area, we were dismayed to find it full, and I mean FULL, of screaming children. I mistakenly believed that the prices of this hotel would make it less "family" friendly. I will NEVER understand why parents bring very small children and babies to places like this - I never did and never would, despite having five of them. Children belong at Howard Johnson's type lodgings. I guess they are the same parents who bring their kids to upscale restaurants. Anyway, no lounge chairs were available. When we finally managed to snag a couple of lounges around 3:00 pm, (once the very small babies were all worn out, one of the reasons I did not go swimming), to our dismay we found that food and beverage service was not offered poolside - for that much money, frankly, I was shocked. We walked over to the very cute "tiki bar", which required using our room key to get in and out of the pool area - inconvenient carrying any drinks or food. No staff offered to help. The servers consisted mostly of college students as far as I could tell, and their attitudes were plainly, "what time can I get out of here". The girls were somewhat surly. It felt like timeshare, NOT an upscale hotel.

The food was good, not great. The service was average. The hotel is beautiful, the scenery breathtaking, and the room was very comfortable if oddly arranged. The elevator by the reception desk was extremely slow and jerky.

We enjoyed a very average stay despite the cost, although we loved the Whitefish area completely. Great restaurants, friendly people. Next time, we will probably rent a condo for actual peace, privacy and quiet.

lodgemt, Manager at Lodge at Whitefish Lake, responded to this review, October 2, 2010
We do our best to make every stay a good one. Occassionally we do have guests that indulge a bit too much in the active Whitefish nightlife, and we do our best to catch these guests and ask them to not disturb others. We do have efficiency kitchens in the room that are only stocked with glassware upon the request of our homeowners, however we have full kitchen dishes and utensils available upon request. We did not opt to put in Jacuzzi tubs and instead installed soaking tubs because of the problem with sanitation of jacuzzi jets. We do welcome familys here at the resort and haven't had complaints about the children being a problem. I am sorry that the stay didn't meet your expectations, but we would love to welcome you back to try us again!

Had a wonderful stay. Great location. Rooms were beautiful and "lodge-like," rather than looking sterile. And I didn't hear a single sound during our entire 4 night stay!

Great spa, pool, hot tub, and the boat rental dock has pretty much any craft you'd want.

One suggestion: there's a big price difference between water view, mountain view, and "viking lodge." However, the rooms appeared to be essentially the same (all very nice). The Viking Lodge, which is across the road, is easily accessible via an enclosed skybridge.

Restaurant was reasonably good, but after eating there 3 nights we finally did some culinary exploring. Don't miss the Kandahar restaurant!!

Espresso bar and breakfast buffet both very good. "Free" valet parking.

We went here just for the afternoon on our honeymoon. The Spa was wonderful and well worth the money, and my husband had a great time sitting by the fireplace watching football.

Advisory #1) If you go, get a lake view room. Otherwise you see the street.
Advisory #2) In our experience, this expensive resort does not know how to treat its customers.
We stayed for a week, and could not book a room [6 weeks ahead of time] for the full duration. Check-in is at 4 pm, but our room was not ready the very first night until almost 5. They did say they would call us when ready, but that never happened.

The 2 rooms we did book were both appealing. One was labeled a pool side suite and the second a lake view 1-bedroom. We were told that the difference was that the suite did not have a full kitchen like the 1-bedroom did. I asked in advance if there was a washer/dryer in either and the staff said no. The surprise, then, was that both rooms had a washer/dryer (even with detergent and dryer sheets in a basket). Both rooms also had a full kitchen, and what we were told was a suite was actually another 1 bedroom. Wouldn't the front desk have access to this information?

The rooms both had stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, separate shower, hardwood floors, comfortable beds, separate dining room and living room. Upon moving rooms, it was obvious that it room #2 not been cleaned. The trash was emptied and the soaps were new, but I noticed the toilet was lined with an orange ring, there were crumbs and dirt on every floor, and there were piles of dust on both the kitchen and bathroom backsplashes. I did not call that night, as I was sure it would be cleaned the following day. It was not.
I called the front desk and got attitude about how she was sure the room was clean, but would note for the cleaning staff to do some "extra cleaning" for us tomorrow. I assured her I was not looking for extra, just "any". I asked if I could speak to a manager and got transferred to a voice mail. We had to call several more times before 2 staff members were sent up to examine the room. They noted the offenses, and finally had someone (not from housekeeping as it was after hours for them) come clean.

Soon after, an envelope was delivered to the room offering 2 drink vouchers for their [expensive] restaurant. Given that the week was costing us $3,500, that our evening was delayed for hours while we waited to shower in a clean bathroom, and that getting assistance was so difficult, we found that offering to be minimal.

The next day, still upset about the orange toilet and dirty floors, I sought out the elusive manager. She explained that the summer staff was green and that the maid did not know she was supposed to clean the room daily.

I am going to end the saga on that ironic note. The manager ended taking $100 off of our total bill, and the room was cleaned daily after that.

Other notes:
The spa is fantastic. I got a facial and a pedicure and really liked the pros who did them. The restaurant is great for the view, and the hummus wrap is outstanding.

The lodge is 50 minutes away from the west entrance of glacier (though the website says " less than a 30-minute drive to the scenic wonders of Glacier National Park," and it is hours from the east entrance. It is very close to the Danny-on trail, which I recommend.

It is a nice place, but don't expect to be treated like you would at any other 4-star hotel. The customer is not always right, and if you call and ask for ice, they will tell you where the ice machines are.

just got back from 4 heavenly days at whitefish lodge! a beautiful lodge located on a pristine lake! in keeping with the montana "culture" there was a huge stuffed grizzley that welcomed you in the lobby beside the massive stone fireplace. our room was lovely with a balcony that overlooked the lake, quiet, serene and peaceful. the staff and concierage were wonderful! The lodge is located just a few miles from glacier national park. we took in the "going to the sun road tour" one day, a boat tour of lake mcdonald, and a chuck wagon ride with dinner. there are so many attractions in and around whitefish and this lodge accomodated our every need! the lodge has a beautiful beach, marina, indoor pool, spa, etc. you can rent boats, jet skis, or a guided fishing trip. each room has a fireplace, mini kitchen with microwave, small fridge, bar sink and stools. the spacious bath has slatetiled floors, walkin shower, tub and double vanity. ate at their "boat club restaurant" out on the patio and enjoyed the view of the mountains and lake. what an exquisite "tranquil" place!
