Picking a hotel near national parks and other big draw attractions if often like voting; you often try to pick the least poor choice. We chose Grouse Mountain with the expectation that it was going to be a little better than other hotels and we paid more than any of the 5 other hotels on our trip to Glacier, Banff and Jasper.
The staff was very helpful and the room was nice. It had the typical "baby elephants" overhead, but otherwise an average room. What really made our stay unpleasant was struggle with parking. They had half of the parking roped off; first they said for "line repainting". Any change in paint was difficult to detect. The first night no spots open, and the staff told us to drive around the barriers and park in the roped off area as no other parking anywhere near the hotel was open. Then the next day, the story changed; the lot had been because set aside for some sport cars participating in the "Going To The Sun Rally". The cars participating in the rally took up about a quarter of the lot. Staff told us that "Maybe they will let you in" so we can load our car when we checked out. Just irritating to us that some guests treated like second class. Especially when the room rate was over $220 per night.More
