Grouse Mountain Lodge

We stayed one night at the Grouse Mountain Lodge and made our reservation through the system that handles the park lodges. We were not able to get a room at the McDonald Lake Lodge, however we needed to be closer to Kalispell to get to the airport the next day. The hotel is a golf and ski lodge. They have an indoor pool and some outdoor spas, an indoor restaurant and a café that is partly outdoor and convention rooms. We were in the loft on the 3rd floor. It has two bedrooms upstairs, one with a king size bed and the other with 2 twins. Downstairs there is a sitting room with TV, a kitchen area with microwave, refrigerator and a sink, a bathroom with two sinks and one shower. The only disappointment was that the room appeared not to have been vacuumed. I found a cocktail toothpick and some food crumbs on the floor and some dead insects. The fan light control was not working in one of the bedrooms, which are dark without the ceiling light. The maintenance man was very nice to come and fix it but it took taking the light apart to find the chain that had been broken off most likely. Eventually we did get the light on. We did not need the fan.

I liked the lodge for its comfort. The little town of Whitefish is very nice. We drove into the park which took about 40 minutes and were able to have dinner at McDonald Lake Lodge. We were close to Kalispell. I am glad we were able to stay there and would recommend this hotel as an alternative to the ones in the park if you want the space, TV, modern amenities, etc. or can't get a reservation in the park lodges.

Stayed here one night. This hotel is located on a golf course and not within the Glacier National park nor does it even have anything interesting around it to do or look at. Take my suggestion and drive another 40 miles or so and stay at the Lake McDonald Lodge that is actually in Glacier National Park. Here is a list of things that we encountered at this hotel. It is Dark and dreary and shabby and worn. the bedroom furnishings are sparse and look like they all came from a flea market. No blackout curtains in room- just shutters that don't do too well of a job when morning comes. All 6 pillows on the bed were hard and soft foam. No down pillows were available. Previously, someone must have liked plastic flowers and plastic trees in pots because they are everywhere. I counted 11 of these dusty things just going from my room to the lobby. Throw them all away! Security is lax. The key card that is supposed to let you into the building either didn't work on some doors or you didn't need it at all because the door was propped open all of the time or the key card wouldn't open the door at all. In the room there were still used coffee grounds in the coffee maker from the previous guest and only one roll of toilet paper. No tissue paper box at all and all shampoos, soap, etc come out from a unit attached to the wall. No hair conditioner was supplied at all. The hot tubs are located near the indoor pool but outside on a deck area. The deck area around and near to the hot tubs are in great need of repair with cracked and peeling flooring. The hot tubs themselves are even less inviting- just a big plastic tub sunk into a wooded deck. We ate dinner in the old part of Whitefish near the train station since the hotel dining did not look too inviting. Had drinks across the street at the golf course lounge. The golf course also has a great restaurant.

Room Tip: Go to Glacier National Park.

Dear BobSeelos,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding your stay at Grouse Mountain Lodge. We are disappointed to read that your stay with us was not all that it could have been for you. I would like to apologize on behalf of the hotel and staff for your stay. We appreciate your recommendation to stay at one of our partner properties that is located in Glacier Park, Lake McDonald Lodge.

While some do prefer to stay in the park, we also accommodate guests who find enjoyment in the activities and splendors around the Whitefish area as well. We were saddened to read that you were not able to find anything interesting to do or look at in this area. We do have a very knowledgeable concierge on hand, with a vast amount of resources for activities and wonderful places to look at.

We use dispensers rather than little bottles of product because it is a part of our Environmental Management program. Keeping millions of little plastic bottles from invading landfills, and the products we put in those dispensers (one a body soap, the other a Shampoo/Conditioner) is produced by a company called BeeKind, whom donates a large portion of their profits to restoring the dwindling Honey bee population, and use zero synthetics in their products.

Our pillows are made by a company called golden memory whom have created a 100% recycled P.E.T. Down pillow. It is not foam, but rather recycled little plastic shampoo bottles from less environmentally minded hotel companies, and is designed to feel identical to a down pillow. We use the same pillows at every one of our properties, including Lake McDonald Lodge and Many Glacier Hotel.
In concern to the used grounds in the coffee maker and issue with the doors, we have addressed the appropriate departments to ensure the proper practices are in place. Also, we have undergone three major renovations in the last three years, and the hot tub deck will indeed be addressed in the final phase of the project.

I would take pleasure in welcoming you back after our renovation is completed in so that you could experience the hot tub area as you might see fit. Please feel free to contact myself directly via the below details if you are travelling to Whitefish again so that I may personally ensure that your next stay is up to par. Once again please do accept my apologies and I do hope that the remainder of your trip to Glacier National Park and northwest Montana were most enjoyable.

Thank you,

Cassandra Sunell

We arrived at about 9 am after an overnight train ride but were able to check straight into the room. The room was very large, bright and well appointed with a small balcony overlooking the golf course. The front desk staff were most obliging and very helpful. The free shuttle in and out of town, on demand, was very useful. The restaurant dinner was very enjoyable.
Due to bad planning on our part, we only had one night there but Whitefish and The Lodge are places we will go back to.

I recently stayed at Grouse Mountain Lodge and had a tremendous experience. I was only there for three days and wanted to make the most of my stay. Rebecca and Tim at the front desk were super helpful, gave us lots of tips and places not to miss, how to get there etc. They even offered to make the phone calls and reservations on our behalf. Their direction made sure we did everything we could in a short time. I asked about a million questions and they were very patient with me!

The managers were super friendly everyday and always greeted us at the front doors.

The food at the Lodge is excellent. Mary at the restaurant is a lovely woman who we chatted with every morning. She was also super helpful in pointing out things to see and do.

I really cannot say enough about the service we received at the Lodge. Going there in early June, a lot of things were not up and running in the Glacier Park area yet- but the staff at the Lodge made sure to make us aware of everything that was, and we had a wonderful stay.

Really enjoyed this place. 1. The food was really really good. We met some local friends and they thanked us for introducing them to the restaurant, 2. Tim and Joe at the front desk made sure everything was great for us. We were headed in to great falls and Tim, a native, made sure we knew what to see. 3. The rooms were just fine and clean. Really a nice stay.

Room Tip: Get one overlooking the golf course if possible.

We stayed four nights. Tim at the front desk was so helpful! The hotel shuttled us to town to take the train to East Glacier and were there to pick us up when we got back. Beautiful hotel. Room was kept clean. Very quiet. We were even given laundry soap to do a load of laundry in the guest facilities. Road construction was a pain, but Tim told us of a back way to avoid it.

Beautiful, clean, friendly, clean, comfortable & quiet! Will definitely stay here again! The shuttle took us to town, they have a gorgeous lounge, the only thing we did not see was the pool, but I'm sure it is fantastic!
