A little background, I've travelled a lot on business and pleasure, so I've stayed in a bunch of places. Most places have been run of the mill Marriotts, Hiltons, Courtyards, Hampton Inn's and Fairfields.

With that being said, in my experiance the Gray Wolf Inn is a mediocre property that is poorly managed and maintained.

Positives:
1. Continental breakfast. Decent, not as good as a Hampton, but similar to other offerings nearby in West Yellowstone (I have stayed in many properties here).
2. Location. Newer section of town.

Negatives:
1. General air of deferred maintenence. Staff describes owner as "cheap". You can tell this by the torn carpet in stairwells, banged up walls and the like. A little junky, but tolerable, if you have no choice. The property is relatively new, so that offsets the cheap factor for a while.

2. Television. I know you don't go to Yellowstone to watch TV, but the TV situation describes the attitude of the owner very well. They trumpet cable TV, but don't mention that the cable includes only about *6* stations -- and does not include ABC, NBC, FOX, PBS or CBS. Cable stations do not include ESPN or ESPN2 among many other standard stations.

Local network channels are provided via a ROOFTOP antenna (per hotel staff), which has very poor 'snowy' reception given that West Yellowstone is in the middle of nowhere. When I asked about this, staff said the owner didn't want to pay for the extra stations, even for local (MT, ID) channels.

When the weather is bad (which is not unusual in a place where it can snow in July), it is nice to relax and watch TV -- and this is not the place to do that.

3. Bedding. Beds are OK, if a little firm. Mattress covers had a hard time staying on the mattress on both our beds.

We ended up moving to the Holiday Inn, which was much better (but no continental breakfast) at about $10 more a night. I would also suggest looking at the Kelly Inn or Club Hotel which I have found to be much nicer at a similar price.

Overall, the Gray Wolf Inn is a place that is not terrible, but you can find much better accomodations for a similar price in West Yellowstone.

We spent 5 nights at the Gray Wolf Inn and 4 days snowmobiling. We had a wonderful stay. The accomodations were nice and the package deal that we recieved on snowmobiling was a bargain. The continental breakfast was good and they even set it out for us at 4:00 the morning that we left so we could eat before we caught the shuttle to Bozeman. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. I would recommend the Gray Wolf Inn and if you are looking for adventure try their snowmobiling package.

We stayed 3 nights on a visit to Yellowstone because the hotel was close to the Yellowstone entrance. I expected a nicer place. The breakfast in the lobby had only a few items and if they ran out it was not replaced for people arriving later. The room was okay but not as clean as I thought it would be. There is no resturants close to walk to but there are some downtown West Yellowstone a few blocks away.

We stayed here for 8 nights and more than likely will not return. The rooms 'felt' dirty and the carpet was musty. The breakfast was okay-but the dining area was crowded. Most of the hotel was booked with tour companies and this made the breakfast areas crowded since everyone ate at the same time. The price was okay...but we have found cheaper with better accomodations. Just not what we were looking for in an extended stay! Also, the water here is foul tasting! This is not the norm for the town...so I am not sure what the deal is with this property's water!

Stayed two nights in a suite over Memorial Day weekend, 2005.

Positives:
- Staff generally attentive.
- Full kitchen in suite.
- Listening to the wolves across the street howling at night.

Negatives:
- Indoor pool was not heated and was freezing cold. Kids would not go in.
- The kitchen was generally dirty. Wouldn't take much to get it spic and span, but, despite it's generally excellent condition, it looked as if the cleaning staff was ignoring the kitchens. The floor was sticky and the cooktop was filthy.
- Kitchen not stocked with cookware. At check-in, I noticed boxes of new T-Fal stacked in the back office. I checked our kitchen and found no pots and pans. Back to the front desk, where I was handed an open box of T-Fal that was sitting on front-desk floor. I got the feeling they are only handing out cookware when asked for, and this was the check-out set.
- Paper-thin walls. Listened to two guys snore all night next door.
- Beds were awful. These have to be the cheapest mattresses available on the market.
- The water smells. Probably endemic to the town, given the high mineral content of the local area, but it really stank. Im generally not a stickler about tap water, but even I couldn't stomach this stuff.

I arrived in West Yellowstone in the late evening anddespite a full capacity at the hotel my room reservation was exactly as promised. Underground parking was convenient and secure and in winter is probably a giant plus. Despite large numbers of families the room was amazingly quiet and obviously the walls are well insulated. breakfast was a better than average continental type. Overall a nice property and an excellent value.

Had to call the desk several times in the night to ask them to shut down the noise, it never stopped and we were awake most of the night. Very expensive when you were unable to get any rest because of the noise in other rooms. Will not stay there again.
