We arrived later into West Yellowstone than expected due to stop and go traffic! We had booked a reservation in advance and decided to stay 2 nights since we had our car repaired in town by Don. (We highly recommend this mechanic-went above and beyond to help us get our car running well again!)The desk clerk (Oct. 23)at the Gray Wolf was especially friendly and gave us ideas of where to eat at the late hour (with a map). Next to the motel is a Grizzly Bear/Wolf Visitation Center so one morning we woke up to the wolves...loved it!

The room was nice enough, nothing outstanding but I didn't expect that for the price we were paying. the first morning there was a bus group at the continental breakfast at the same time we were. We ended up grabbing a couple things and took them outside to eat because there was no room to sit with the tour group there. Very inadequate for groups and we were there the last week in August. I can't imagine during the height of the season. Close to the park, that was very nice. My biggest concern was when we saw smoke in the distance (35-50 miles?). I went to the desk to see if/how we would be notified if there was an emergency plan...they have no plan. And then she went on to make fun of my being from New York State and saying how did we plan for the hurricanes that destroyed parts of the city and Long Island? I am from western NY but I wasn't going to explain that to her. After all, she was "in charge" of the hotel at that point and she may have been 21, maybe 22 years old. In closing, it was a nice place to stay while we were sleeping, don't try to eat or talk to the front desk.

Hello Margaret, we sincerely appreciate your review and for taking the time to help us improve our level of service for future guests. We never want to hear that our guests experience the front desk of the Gray Wolf Inn & Suites as anything but a helpful and pleasant resource. We have shared your comments; changes will be made to improve the way with which this situation was handled. The response to your wildfire concern is inexcusable. Wildfires are a serious threat to our whole region and your concern is justified. Thank you for your patience in the situation and for sharing it with us. We truly hope you make your way to West Yellowstone again and consider staying with us again.

This hotel is really well situated just outside Yellowstone National Park and within easy walking distance of all the shops and restaurants of West Yellowstone itself. The rooms were comfortable and clean although the air con was noisy - this seems to be a common problem in American hotels.
The staff were exceptionally helpful in providing maps of the town and suggestions as to where to eat.

Nice hotel just outside of west entrance of Yellowstone. Staff were pleasant and helpful, rooms were clean. Good continental breakfast options in the morning. We cut our prepaid trip by one day since the Government shutdown closed Yellowstone, but we had no hassles or penalties as a result (although the web site warned us there would be). I would definitely book this hotel again. Rooms had refrigerator and microwave which came in very handy. Pool and hot-tub are both located inside.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, right on the west gate to Yellowstone, you can be in the park in minutes. Sadly this is the only good thing I have to say about this hotel.

Upon arrival, we discovered that the hotel had lost our booking and were full. Despite us having paperwork to confirm the booking, their attitude was "we have no rooms, not our problem, get out of our hotel, I'm not bothered about helping". The manager even hid whilst on the phone trying (only when forced) to sort things out. Definitely not one to return to!

Hello "Avoid at all costs",
I would like to comment on your unfortunate visit to our hotel. Your reservations were booked by a company through our group reservation system, not at our hotel or on site. The company you booked through "cancelled" your reservation and was sent confirmation of this. The company that booked the reservation meant to cancel a booking on the following week but it was never confirmed about your booking. Our company took full responsibility for this mishap, issued a formal apology and refunded all due monies as well as payed for your trip and stay in Bozeman. The group tour was cancelled 45 days prior to your arrival, when you arrived we had no record you were coming and nothing was showing in our computers. The manager you speak of is I and I was in the back making acommodations for your tour group to stay in Bozeman. There was no hiding as you have stated I was finding a solution to the issue not trying to find fault with either side. We appreciate your tour groups business and hope to serve you in the future. Thank you for your comments.

We stayed at the Gray Wolf Inn in February, 2013. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. They recommended restaurants and things to do. Also we were allowed to park our car in the hotel's parking lot while we were in Yellowstone. The only way to get into Yellowstone is by snow coach or by snowmobile. Therefore you need a place to park your car. Also the snow coach picks up right outside the hotel. The breakfast was average hotel fair but that is not why we stayed here.

We had an unpleasant experience on the way up at another place we stayed, so Gray Wolf Inn was a breath of fresh air! Hotel staff was very nice. The room comfortable, accommodated 3 adults, with 2 Queen beds, and enough room for our luggage and stuff besides that! We had a problem with the phone and cable on tv not working initially. They promptly came and fixed it. Beds were comfortable, not rock hard. Had a vanity with sink outside the bathroom, a small dorm size fridge, and air conditioning. It was located one block from the street that enters Yellowstone... also a plus! Walking distance from several dining options. This is not a 5 star hotel...but we knew that when we booked it, and it was exactly what we expected! We were definitely pleased with our stay at Gray Wolf Inn and will return in the future!
