“Disappointed in our room”
Reviewed June 20, 2006

We stayed 2 nights at the Stage Coach over the Memorial Day weekend. We were very disappointed in the room. It was smaller than we expected. It was fairly clean; just old and small. No place in the bathroom to put your toiletries. Terrible lighting for putting on makeup. We were on the road for 15 days. Stage Coach Inn was one of the most expensive rooms we stayed in during our trip, and it was by far the "least fancy".
If I had it to do over again, I would have stayed at the Gray Wolf Inn; it's much nicer.

If you stay here be prepared for small rooms and beware about staying in rooms above the bar , we had to suffer a night of extremely loud music from the bar until 2.00 in the morning , after a sleep of about 2 hours that night requests for a discount due to the noise were met with the comment "well you got the room at a discount rate anyway'.
Otherwise the area is great but this spoiled an otherwise great vacation

Stayed here at the end of June 2005.
Unlike some other reviewers, we had little cause for complaint. It was $80 a night on a summer weekend and our King non-smoking room was clean, quiet and well furnished. Despite our fears about being overwhelmed by tourist tat, West Yellowstone is actually a really nice little town. There's plenty of restaurants and a few bars to keep you occupied. Several places (including the Stage Coach) keep serving dinner until 10pm, handy if you've been out in Yellowstone NP wildlife-spotting. We saw 4 roadside bears on the first day, by the way. The park entrance is only three blocks away.

The only downside to our room was that the shower pressure had a severe case of prostate trouble. Apart from that, no worries.
For $80, don't expect a Mandarin Oriental and you won't be disappointed. If we ever go back to West Yellowstone, we'd stay here again.

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. How this hotel got a two star rating (three diamond from AAA) I'll never know. The room was worn, and the bathroom didn't even have a working vent fan. When we told the front desk about the fan, they said they would have their maintenance guy look at it. Apparently, all he did was look at it, because it still didn't work the second (and last night) that we stayed there. About the only positive was the appearance of the lobby, and the staff while not helpful or overly freindly was polite.

By contrast, we stayed at Al's Westward Ho the next two nights. While old and dated with no phones in the rooms, it was clean, and everything worked. It's also about the cheapest lodging in West Yellowstone. It was recommended to us by my uncle who has travelled to Yellowstone many times and my mom; otherwise, we probably wouldn't have considered it given its corny name. However, once you get beyond the name, it is much better than the greatly overrated Stagecoach Inn. Just don't expect too much. It is basically a clean and freindly Motel 6.

We've spent the last four Christmas-New Year's holidays in West Yellowstone - snowmobiling up to Two Top, through the park, all over the trails in and out of the park. Nights are best spent in the Stage Coach Inn lounge, listening to a REAL ENTERTAINER by the name of WILL KIEFER. This guy will play anything from rock and roll, blues, jazz, swing, bluegrass, you name it. Its all live, not karaoke or playing to cds like so many performers do. Live entertainers play requests on the spot, and he does the best job. If you want a good, fun night, head to the Stage Coach Inn while he's in town. I hope they pay him great money!!!!

We booked a room at the Stage Coach Inn over the internet during "off season" we arrived around 2:00 pm and was told that we could not check in until 4:00. It was obvious that the desk clerk didn’t want to check us in even if our room was ready. When we returned to check in around 7:00 pm we had to interrupt the desk clerk from eating, watching TV and socializing with her friend in the lobby to check us in. The interruption came with a bad attitude as she checked us in. We went up to our deluxe room and it was not a deluxe at all. The bedspread had burn marks as did the blanket underneath. There was hair in the sheets. We booked a deluxe room so we would have a refrigerator and there was not a fridge in the room. We went back to the front desk and again had to interrupt social hour. We told her we booked a deluxe room that include a refrigerator and also asked the clerk when we attempted to check in the first time if we had one and he told us that we did. She pretended not to know who we were talking as we described the other clerk to her. She said no one of the description worked there. The she told us to have the room we booked on line it would cost $20.00 per night more. For a dirty room and horrible customer service we took our two-night stay to another hotel.

Although we stayed in the "modern wing" (I believe from 1986), every time someone on our floor used the plumbing, especially the shower, it sounded like a freight train going through our room. The rooms and lobby were tastefully done, though. One sign at the checkin desk states that they will "not be responsible" for reservations made through the internet, even if you have a reservation number. (Why do they accept internet reservations, then?). Another sign states that their AC units don't work too well and can freeze up. THREE signs at the hot tubs: No beer/liquor. Closed at 11 PM. Wouldn't cash travelers' checks. Cars/headlights drive directly into the windows of first floor rooms. Shampoo in packets instead of little bottles...
