“Great Find in West Yellowstone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

We took our 9 year old nephew on a trip thru Yellowstone this summer and the Bar N was a fabulous find. We stayed in a one-bedroom cabin which was fine in size and very comfortable. My nephew deemed this "the best place" and was super excited that fishing was just out the back door and that we had our own hot tub. I also enjoyed the communal game & social hall in the mornings as I was always first up and a couple of the mornings were just too brisk to read outside for any length of time. And I also made good use of the main lodge room which was very comfortable for reading as well. The staff was terrific and super helpful. On the last day I discovered that I had left my camera on a counter back at Old Faithful. Given that this was the final day of a two-week trip thru Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana I was terrified that I would lose all of the pictures from the trip let alone replacing the pricy camera. The front desk person called their neighbor to get a phone number and they tracked it down for me. We will definitely make a return trip.

After our large family (2 adults, 4 kids under 11 years old) enjoyed 8 nights crammed into one room cabins and hotel rooms, we "splurged" for our final nights' stay and spent to relaxing nights in BarNRanch. Although it was costly, it was well worth the expense.
With luxurious guest rooms, a fireplace, jetted bathtubs and a private outdoor hot tub, our cabin was perfect for us. We stayed in the 2 bedroom cabin, and with its pull-out couch, it was comfortable for a family of 6. Although the cabin did not include a kitchen, the included breakfast at the restaurant was superb, with made to order specialties in a dynamic lodge setting. '
Our children loved the on-site pond and the swimming pool. Despite it being peak of summer travel and a fully booked Ranch, we felt serenity of the "wild west" in this quiet getaway.

We wanted to visit Yellowstone, but we also wanted the "guest ranch" experience, and the Bar N scored on both marks. The location is wonderful -- far enough out, but close enough to the park that it's easy to get in and get out. The restaurant was where we had the very best meals of our trip -- breakfast is tasty and hearty, and dinner is sophisticated and creative. Excellent service by the wait staff, cleaning staff, front desk staff. The highlight of staying at the Bar N was soaking in the hot tub, with a glass of wine, and looking with wonder at the millions of stars overhead. They don't call this "Big Sky Country" for nothing! (PS: the review says we stayed in September 2012, but it was actually September 2011 --oops!)

Just before school started, we took a week in Yellowstone and were really torn about where to stay having booked our trip quite late. The Bar N Ranch was a great choice in terms of a base for touring the park. We were very close to the west entrance to Yellowstone Park and only minutes from the rodeo which we went to one night and had great fun. The restaurant on the premises was the best food we had during our stay, with sumptuous breakfast every morning. The grounds of the ranch were far in from the road and quite nice. The Mountain Creek cabin we stayed in was directly across from the main lodge. This was an odd layout overall. Rather than face the beautiful views of the mountains that were in the back of the cabin, most of the cabins including ours faced the main lodge. Aside from this, there were many positives:
-fireplace reset everyday with kindling and fresh wood
-housekeeping very good
-jacuzzi
-plush robes
Things to be improved:
-2 bedrooms were a bit small and flanked a shared bathroom
-no iron and glasses
-hot tub outside was nice but was totally open to the road and not private-- it had a fence with no shrubbery so you were on display for the front office to see and a neighboring cabin.

Overall, it was a nice stay, but we would have chosen another cabin if given a choice facing the pond or the one beside ours which as at least nestled behind a pine tree.

Room Tip: I would definitely choose one of the cabins that is off the center lodge. Many of these were one be...

We stayed with these nice folks for five nights in the Crooked Creek Cabin. The cabin was very clean and quite adequate for my husband and I. It was delightful to see two plush robes hanging in the bedroom. We enjoyed the fireplace every evening and were kept well-supplied with wood. The towels were thick and clean and the bed was very comfortable. We slept quite well. It was the exact place we sought: peace and quiet after a long day and lots of people in the park. The restaurant served great breakfast and delicious dinners and the service was very good. Corey was extremely helpful to us the entire time. The entire staff, in fact, were friendly, helpful and professional. The lodge itself is so cozy and inviting but we did not spend too much time there as our cabin was so comfy. The only negative is the funky sink in the bathroom. Fortunately, there was another bathroom type sink in the dining room which worked just fine. A bit odd but really okay as we were not entertaining anyone! I would recommend the Bar N to anyone who seeks comfort and quiet with all the modern amenities at your fingertips. Jonna does a fabulous job of providing a well-run and welcoming ranch-style vacation. If we ever get back to Montana, we won't hesitate to stay with them.

I stayed at the Bar N during a countrywalkers' trip in Yellowstone. It was a great place to stay. The staff was friendly, the food was very good, and it far surpassed the park lodges. I would highly recommend it

We revisited the Bar-N on a return visit to Yellowstone. We stayed in the Lodge in one of the larger rooms (Gallatin). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, still love the hot tub and fireplaces. Unfortunately the view from the Gallatin room has been compromised because it looks at the restaurant now (so do all the rooms on that side now). The staff at the inn are great. We enjoyed the new amenity of having a TV, even though we rarely watch much on vacation but my husband enjoyed catching a particular football game. I think the pricing has increased just a bit too much over the 3 years and I am not a fan of the vouchers for breakfast. The vouchers are a tiny bit short if you want juice and coffee and an omelet; with the price of the room they shouldn't be charging you an extra dollar at breakfast. We left the same tip every morning and I have no idea if they actually took the dollar out of the tip to pay overage on the bill. Also, since it's a restaurant now, one morning their was a busload having breakfast; this caused our service to be extremely crappy. I actually think this was due more to the quality of the servers than the busload of people or the cooks. An aside, they no longer make the biscuits from scratch which 3 years ago the were the best biscuits I ever ate (found out it was Dan? who cooked them).
