I'll always prefer a funky old cabin over a cookie-cutter motel, but my philosophy sort of backfired on me with Hadley's Motel. I have no idea what the motel-style rooms are like, but the cabin we stayed in was funky to the max. It was a real log cabin, with chinking between the logs, and our cabin probably dates back to the 1930's. While the room was clean enough, the tiny bathroom was like a box that had just been dropped into the room. And when my friend took a shower in the morning, she never turned on the cold H2O....the "hot" water was tepid at best. At first I thought the bathroom was open at the top, but it actually was enclosed. The bed was comfy enough, with a wool blanket on it. When was the last time you saw that in a chain?
All we needed was a place to lay our heads before & after going to the Park. Hadley's filled the bill.
By the way, in addition to the almost overpowering tawdriness and cheesiness that marks the downtown of West Yellowstone, even the fruit stand across from Hadley's at the corner of Gibbon & N. Canyon was sub-par. And luckily, thanks to a two year old review on TripAdvisor that said in '09 "This place has not brewed its own beer in over 10 years", we were forewarned about Wolf Pack "Brewing", which says in large letters on the front "MICROBREWERY", but is not a brewery. I saw no evidence of a brewing plant on the premises, and was told by a woman sitting in the bar that the "brewmaster hurt is back, and hasn't been able to brew for the last month". Make that "this century"
