This is an odd review to write. The hotel room itself was actually nice, but the experience as a whole matched what I've come to expect from West Yellowstone.

Coming from Portland, you might be tempted to say that I have a problem with small towns. I assure you, I don't. We had some great experiences on this trip in some unexpected places. We stayed in some very local-feeling hotels. We even enjoyed Lander, of all places. There's just something off about West Yellowstone. I think it might be that it has nothing going for it except the park itself. Jackson has the parks and skiing. Other tourist destinations have tourism and generally some other industry. What else does West Yellowstone have? Anyway, I digress.

We tried to stay in a place up the street, but they didn't have any rooms with two beds available. They suggested we try here. We weren't sure they were even open, but I checked the reviews on Yelp while sitting in the parking lot and decided to give it a try. They were open, but just barely. The woman behind the desk gave us the "what are YOU doing here" reaction to our arrival. We were told that we could stay, but ONLY for one night! She clarified to explain that it was their last night before closing for the season (it seemed more like she didn't want us here for too long when she first said it). I read in at least one of the reviews that the service here was bad, and that was painfully true. She was awkward, borderline rude and we left the office feeling very unsure about staying here. We went to find our room and realized that our room number wasn't even close to the numbers we saw from the rooms at the front of the hotel. I had to go back in and ask where our room was. It was around back (this could have been mentioned).

As I said, the room itself was actually pretty nice (I should note that we stayed in the building in the back - it seemed like it was significantly newer than the main hotel building). It wasn't perfect, but we had worse along our trip. It gave me a strong sense of déjà vu for some reason . . . seriously, even now as I write this, I'm wondering if I've stayed here before. I can't think of when I possibly would have. The room seemed too new to have been where I stayed when I was a kid. Again, I digress. The room was eerie, spooky, creepy, whatever, but I think that was due to the nearly deserted town on one of the first snowy nights of the season.

Our final experience here was what solidified a ranking lower than what the room itself deserved. I just knew this would be the case, but the advertised breakfast wasn't served the next morning. Sure it's the end of the season, but when you walk into a hotel that advertises that it serves a breakfast with your hotel stay, it shouldn't matter when you're staying. And if you're going to snub your end-of-season guests, you should at least tell them that's your plan. Instead of breakfast offerings, there was a sign that shouted "Ask the front desk for breakfast suggestions." Telling us to go to the place down the street isn't quite the same as serving breakfast to your guests. A truly appropriate send-off to complete our time at this place.

Room Tip: There seems to be differently aged rooms in this hotel. Watch that you're getting what you expe...

Thank you for taking the time to review our property.

We are glad to hear that you found your room to be nice. We are sorry that the rest of your experience was less than perfect. We always strive to provide excellent customer service. We wish you would have informed us of any issues you had during your stay so that we may have had an opportunity to resolve them.

As you mentioned, it was our last night of the season so there were not many guests staying at our property that particular evening. We hope you had a quiet and relaxing evening since you did not have other guests disturbing you. For those who would prefer to avoid the heavy crowds, traffic, and noise of the peak summer season, visiting Yellowstone in the late spring or fall is a great option. You will find that our rates are considerably lower during these seasons as well.

I am not sure where you saw an advertised breakfast as our property has never advertised any type of breakfast. In an effort to keep our rates low, we do not offer a breakfast. We do provide complimentary coffee in the mornings.

Located at the doorstep of the first, oldest, and most popular national park, West Yellowstone is definitely a unique tourist destination. Due to the overwhelming demand of over 3.5 million annual park visitors, our town's primary focus is tourism. Many new guests to West Yellowstone do not understand that this is a very small town with extremely limited private land. Our town is surrounded by millions of acres of forest wilderness that is preserved and protected for the wildlife and amazing natural resources in our area. Therefore, it is impossible to compare our town with the other communities you have mentioned.

We hope that you will give West Yellowstone and our property a chance to provide you with an excellent experience in the future.

Picked this hotel based on price and high ratings on tripadvisor and we were very happy with the choice. The room was clean and neat and we liked the decor a lot. The only problem we had with the room is that when some noisy neighbors showed up, it was easy to hear them.

The staff was very nice and helpful and worked to get the wireless internet working when it went down for a little bit. They weren't trained tech support, but they were kind and very helpful. I would be happy to stay here again if I get to visit Yellowstone!

We stayed here from Oct 7-11th and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a cosy cabin room with dining table, microwave &fridge. Moose Creek is in a great location near to the west entrance of the park.
We loved our stay, however due to our circumstances (we are backing) we were slightly disappointed that breakfast consists of muffins & coffee. We also required laundry facilities that are not available on sight.

...but we would return & recommend

Thank you for staying at Moose Creek on your visit to Yellowstone National Park. Also, thank you for your very nice comments about your stay. We are sorry that your were disappointed in the coffee and muffins, we have never offered any breakfast at our hotel and have never advertised any type of breakfast. In keeping prices low, we do only offer the coffee and a few small muffins. The laundry facility is directly across the street from our property and has very convenient hours and many washers and dryers, our front desk staff is aware of the laundry facility and would have been happy to assist you with any questions. Thank you again.

This is pretty average hotel. Small price for the small room reached by little out door staircase, simple breakfast, but we had a good sleep here for one night. It is obvious that no one is going to enjoy the hotel here. So we got what we need.

we stayed there only for one night but wished we could stay for more. this place is very small but very well designed. it starts at the reception Room which is just goerges! so pretty, welcoming and even has a fireplace. we fell inlove with it instantly.
the room we got was just as good - it was very small but was nicely designed. the furniture was all authentic with cute moose pictures everywhere. an amazing selection of tv channels. even the soap and shampoo were great compared to any other motels of this level.
they dont offer breakfast, but yet still offer a complimentary flavored coffee with muffins and donuts.
the service was extremely nice and helpful.

A TIP:
most of the businesses around close for the entire season at around mid-end September. don't count on restaurants you read about in the internet to be open... just get there and find something.

The Moose Creek Inn was great for us after a long day traveling and in Yellowstone. The room had recently been remodeled and was clean and very cozy. It was small, but since the only time we spent there was before going to bed at night and then before we left first thing the next morning it was perfect. Had a small microwave and fridge, log cabin type table, chair and bed and the bed was very comfortable. he parking area is small but adequate. The staff was friendly and had suggestions on places to eat. You are right in town, so can walk anywhere there. We would definitely stay here again -- it worked great for us. The price was right also -- they had just started their winter rates -- the last weekend in September.

We stayed here for 6 nights whilst doing Yellowstone NP - and found the Inn met our needs.
We were located in the new separate block, on the 1st (top) floor.
The room was spotless and well equipped.
We didn't expect a B & B, so grabbing a coffee & muffin to help us on our way to the Park saved us time.
The Parking was a bit tight - but fine, especially if you back in when you arrive.
You could walk to the town centre easily.
The staff I met were all very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new block - on top floor - sees to the better option
