Being from Alberta, we were all set to check out the Yellowstone Rodeo, but when we arrived to the 'rodeo' we found it was a shabby little place on the side of the road, that is desperately in need of paint and maintenance.
We actually almost drove right past it as it only had a small spray painted sign hanging on the fence and looked more like an old abandoned farm that someone was storing their horses at than a rodeo.
There were a couple of pens for the horses and a larger corral type enclosure with some run down bleachers that we determined to be the actual 'rodeo' arena. The pens with the horses were very small and only had enough room for the horses to be hitched to the rail with no room for them to turn around, let alone walk, lie down or graze. They also left the horses saddled and harnessed in these pens and after driving past this location at least 6 other times, we found out they actually leave the horses this way for several days. We do not do this to our horses in Alberta and in our opinion, this is just plain lazy and irresponsible behaviour.
Not surprisingly, this place was not drawing in the tourists and the only people really attending this 'rodeo' were the ones participating in the events. We left shortly after arriving here and would not recommend it to anyone. The whole operation was more than just a little bit odd and definitely not what we would consider a professional rodeo.
