We arrived in West Yellowstone after a 5 hour car trip from Salt Lake City and made this our first must-see destination. We were not disappointed; the park facilitator instructed the children to hide food under tree stumps and foliage (the bears had not been released yet!) The grizzlies came out and using their long claws, turned over the logs to find the treats (carrots). Everyone was enthralled. The small pack of wolves were out in another compound and very active. It did sadden me to see that while these animals are all safe and fed, the wilderness is really their home. You must read the history of how these animals came to be in captivity to put it in perspective. The facility is well managed, the visitor centres have video presentations and a fireplace ; lots of background and research has been put into it - our trip to Yellowstone would not have been complete without this visit.
