“Awsome Visit”
Reviewed August 9, 2010

This was our third trip to West Yellowstone in two years, We have stayed at the Inn at least a part of each visit. This time we came and just lived there for six nights. We were treated like friends, Don and Sally (the managers), really were nice and cared about our visit. We traveled for eighteen nights this last trip and the time we spent at Kelly Inn were the nicest we had. We felt safe, relaxed, and comfortable. Don and Sally actually care about the guests and you don't find that everywhere. We already knew the setting and decor of Kelly Inn was what we wanted (did I mention pet friendly), but we know we'll be cared for on the road when we stay there again.

Thank you for your gracious comments. It was a pleasure having you stay with us. We really do appreciate getting to know our guests and building long term relationships for those that return every year. We hope to see you in the winter sometime for snowmobiling season, but if not, we will look forward to seeing you again next summer and be sure to bring that lovable puppy.

I thought by paying such a high price for a room that Kelly Inn would be exceptional. It was just an average-OK motel. Nothing special. We paid $220 including tax for a room that should have been maybe at most $150 tops (probably under $100 at any other location). I did not bring my laptop so wireless connection wasn't necessary, but my AT&T cell phone didn't work which was very inconvenient. My phone credit card didn't work so I was billed by the hotel for long distance calls. Breakfast was a horrible experience. Too crowded. Machine ran out of coffee. Waffle machine incessantly beeping. My husband and I went to a local establishment for breakfast.

We hope you enjoyed your visit to Yellowstone National Park and the Town of West Yellowstone despite the fact that you visited during an extremely crowded time of year. As you mentioned, everything in and around the national park is priced higher than in most other towns. This is not unusual for a national park as the very short season and extreme number of visitors creates an overwhelming demand on the small businesses that must provide services in such a tiny remote wilderness area.

Over 3 million visitors from all over the world converge on the park each year with the majority arriving in only a few months time span. Therefore, nearly every hotel, RV park and campground are completely sold out all summer long. With so many visitors all trying to have meals at the same time it does put a strain on every restaurant and hotel in town. Most people don't realize that we actually serve our deluxe complimentary breakfast to over 200 guests every morning. In order to speed up our breakfast service, we recently installed a new state of the art automatic pancake machine and additional counter space to help everyone get to the park early. While our waffle makers are still quite popular the pancakes take only 30 seconds.

If you booked a reservation on line and shopped around you surely noticed that our hotel is actually priced much less than similar hotels in the area that offer fewer amenities. Our outstanding web site offers a virtual tour of the hotel as well as several live web cams so potential visitors can view real images of our hotel, our rooms and the local scenery in advance to help them make their lodging choice.

Although we do offer free WIFI in addition to providing a guest computer in the lobby, unfortunately we have no control over AT&T cell phone service or phone company credit cards. The Town of West Yellowstone does have reasonable cell phone coverage but most of the national park wilderness area has no coverage at all.

We hope that in the future you will consider a return visit to Yellowstone outside of the peak season when there are far fewer crowds and much more time to enjoy the wildlife and the beautiful fall and winter scenery. We offer outstanding snowmobile packages and very affordable rates over the longer winter season. Our website or a phone call to the hotel is the best place to start to learn about all there is to do here throughout the entire year.

ATTABOY!!!

We stayed at Kelly Inn WEST Yellowstone, Montana on Friday 06 Aug 2010 Room #316 for just one night. We appreciate the fact that Angie got us in during a busy season. BUT MORE importantly would like to recognize Mr. Annon Howard !!!! A very professional young man. The hotel staff is very professional in general. PRIOR to COMING HERE we saw some of West Yellowstone’s worst. Saying things like “The room I have is $200 and that’s my best rate just to get rid of us, with a sly smile almost as if they enjoyed giving us the bad news.” I could have gone 3 other hotels (We did check in person) but Angie at Kelly Inn gave us a break (about $10) and that told me I want to stay where they WANT my business. The money wasn't nearly as important.

Here’s (2) of the reasons why we want to give Annon the AttaBoy:
#1 We were here the night before and we went camping in Yelowstone then So we sorta knew the town already. We asked about Pizza places and Annon's opinion and we got schooled on ALL THREE. PLACES.. Probably not a good Idea to say where we went but Ask Annon and he'll school you!

#2 THIS IS MAINLY WHY I AM GIVING ANNON the Attaboy!! We asked for some help got a great map & I wanted to make sure he got every phone call while he was helping us. He spent time with us & gave a us great directions for our trip back down through Yellowstone again and on towards grand canyon! The route we are taking will accomplish what we want. we had a suggestion that we go one direction and Annon explained why we MAY NOT want to go that route and had a much more scenic one. We haven’t even had breakfast here yet but expect that to be a great experience tomorrow also. We hope to find a Kelly Inn again!

I am quite sure that ALL OF Kelly Inn employees are caring profesionals and would recomend this hotel to everyone.

Kelly Inn is likely the better of the hotels in West Yellowstone, which is like an amusement park filled with plastic trinkets from China and reheated frozen food. It is sad that this town, and all its neon, is the gateway to one of our countries most impressive treasurers. The hotel is nothing special and is PACKED with people in the summer. Eating breakfast in the morning is like being at an Old Country Buffet. The food is packaged food that has been unwrapped. The room cost almost $200, what a shame.

We were very surprised to read your comments regarding your dissatisfaction with the town of West Yellowstone. Your description would lead others to believe our town is somewhat like a neon lighted gambling resort town. While we do have a few slot machines in town for those who enjoy gambling, most people describe West Yellowstone as quaint and reminiscent of the old west with a focus on nature and wildlife. Based on the number of visitors who return every year, most people seem to enjoy staying in our little town. We were sorry to hear that West Yellowstone, in general, did not live up to your expectations during your recent visit.

West Yellowstone certainly can be an extremely crowded town for its small size. The local human population here is only about 1100, yet over 3 million visitors arrive in Yellowstone National Park each year, mostly between Memorial Day and Labor Day. That does create quite a drain on local resources for the park and the nearby small towns. The overwhelming demand does limit the type and amount of fresh food available to be shipped and stored by the local restaurants and hotels. It also requires importing thousands of seasonal employees from all over the world just to feed, house and care for so many visitors in such a short season.

While there certainly are shops that do sell imported items and prepackaged foods both inside and outside the park, there are also shops that sell Native American hand made jewelry, animal hides, buffalo burgers, home made taffy, huckleberry ice cream and thousands of Yellowstone souvenirs requested by tourists from all over the world. We also have shops offering guided tours of the park, horse back riding, whitewater rafting and fly fishing. Most visitors need to spend an entire day just visiting all of the shops in town to appreciate everything the town has to offer. West Yellowstone also features two playhouses in addition to a variety off restaurants and even a wild west rodeo every weekend.

The Visitor's Center, IMAX theater and the famous Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center are just across the street from the Kelly Inn and are highly recommended. The 100 year old train depot housing the Yellowstone Museum is located just outside our back door. Our hotel is actually the closest to the west park entrance and only a little over 30 miles to Old Faithful so our guests can get into the park and stay longer than those staying in the other small towns located near the other entrances to the park.

We hope that you will visit Yellowstone National Park again some day and plan a little more time to see and enjoy everything that the Town of West Yellowstone and the Kelly Inn has to offer. We offer free maps of both the town and the park and our staff can point out all of the attractions both inside and outside the park that should not be missed. Our web site is a great place to visit to see all that you might have missed on your last trip.

We arrived in West Yellowstone with reservations at Moose Creek Inn. I won't go into that here but I will say that Kelly Inn was able to get us in with no reservation. We stayed 4 nights in the king jacuzzi suite and I can tell you that this room ROCKED. Clean, huge and the A/C worked almost too good. The breakfast was your standard expanded continental, waffles, pancakes, juice, cereal, muffins, etc. But it was a good way to start the day. The staff made us feel very welcome and they were really great at accomodating us on such a short notice. The room also had a wet bar and a small refrigerator that we used to keep our drinks cold and re-freeze our re-useable ice packets. All in all, Kelly Inn helped make our stay very nice after a disasterous start with Moose Creek.

We're glad that we could help in any way to improve your visit to our remarkable little town and our neighborhood playground, Yellowstone National Park. West Yellowstone is very 'touristy' and the Kelly Inn obviously fits right in. Probably one of the nicer places (on the outside at least) in town but very pricey for what you get. Had a major problem with the room on the first night and management approached us first thing the next morning and comped our first night stay because of the problem. Management was very concerned and apologetic and we didn't have to fight for a reasonable adjustment. $200 per night for a room that would cost $60-$80 per night anywhere else and a free breakfast that was nothing but cereal and donuts in a crowded hallway. Fortunately McDonalds was right next door. So we got our junk food fix for breakfast every day. Yellowstone National Park was literally just around the corner, so the location was great for a great part of Yellowstone. Can be at Old Faithful in less than an hour from hotel.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit. We appreciate your comments and the fact that you let us know of the room problem right away so we could resolve it quickly and make a fair adjustment. We were sorry to hear that because of the temporary crowd that you missed seeing the entire free breakfast assortment and chose to spend money at the neighborhood fast food franchise.

Our deluxe continental breakfast service actually includes freshly made hot pancakes, make your own waffles, hard boiled eggs, two kinds of fresh fruit, four kinds of cereal plus oatmeal, bagels, English muffins, two kinds of toast with jelly, peanut butter or cream cheese, three kinds of juice, two kinds of coffee and several kinds of teas in addition to the donuts and muffins all included at no charge with every room.

We hope that if you should return to visit Yellowstone National Park again in the future that you will choose Kelly Inn again as your lodging choice. While all lodging rates in and around the park are above average in the summer months, our rates are very affordable during the off peak season when the park roads and wildlife are far more accessible. Our web site can provide helpful information on rates and activities throughout the year.

We spent 2 nights here during our trip to Yellowstone National Park. The rooms looked alright but we soon found out the walls were very thin. You could hear the people in the rooms next door even though they spoke in their normal voices. We also heard the yappy dog across the hall late at night and early in the morning. The ceiling above creaked when the people above us walked around. To top it all off it was overpriced. Other than that, the room was comfortable and it was in a nice location near Yellowstone.

We hope you enjoyed your visit to Yellowstone National Park. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you. We certainly appreciate your comments regarding your stay. The walls between our rooms are actually 6 inches thick with sound blanket insulation and double layers of gypsum board on each side and the ceilings are 10 inches thick just to make them as quiet as possible. Unfortunately, on occasion, we do have excited young guests on vacation who unintentionally can create enough noise to disturb other guests.

We have desk clerks on duty 24 hours a day who are there to cheerfully resolve any request or any complaint if they are notified. A simple phone call to the front desk at any hour can quickly resolve nearly any issue. In addition. as General Managers, we actually live on the property so we can be aware of and monitor any excessive noise or activity while allowing our exuberant younger guests to fully enjoy their stay with us. While we are pet friendly and do not charge for pets, we do require pet registration to prevent any unsupervised pets and can relocate any unsupervised or unruly pet to our private "rescue" kennel if necessary.

We hope that you will return to our beautiful West Yellowstone community in the future and give us another opportunity to serve you. If you book direct with us we will be happy to reserve one of our extremely quiet third floor rooms where pets are not permitted.
