This is a budget-class hotel that's clean (but see the caveat below) and comfortable. Not at all luxurious, but if you just need a place to crash for the night before or after a trip into Yellowstone Park, the Kelly Inn is fine. Breakfast is just OK, but is included in the room rate. I had requested a non-smoking room and the room I was assigned (#133) was marked "non-smoking," but the prior occupants had apparently ignored the signs, leaving the room smelling like an ashtray. During Winter, when I stayed here, the hotel has a large number of snowmobilers and I suspect that smoking in non-smoking rooms is a common problem. When you check in, I suggest that you ask to see (and smell) the room before paying for it.

There are few restaurants open during the winter. If you're looking for upscale fine-dining, try Sydney's Mountain Bistro.

The Kelly Inn in West Yellowstone is a perfectly adequate hotel for travelers spending a few days in Yellowstone National Park. It does seem to have the absolute minimum features to avoid any complaints. For those of you who have seen the movie Office Space, the Kelly Inn has exactly 15 pieces of flair. For the rest of you, let's just say that they aren't giving anything more than absolutely necessary.

(We stayed there last May, and I'm submitting this the following February because I just found this file that I wrote while at the Kelly Inn. I assume most of my information is still current.)

The rooms come with free high-speed Internet, which is a plus. Our room also had a hair dryer, a water heater for coffee or tea, an ironing board and a cheap iron, and television. The dresser had only two large drawers, instead of the normal four or more medium drawers. The closet space was very small, but there was room for a few pieces of clothes and a suitcase.

The rooms are not all that quiet - the noise from people walking on the floor above ranged from noticeable to annoying. Our ground floor room did have an unusual design with two entrance doors, one opening to the inside corridor and the other to the outside parking lot, which was rather handy.

The breakfast was minimum standard free hotel quality, with about three cold cereals, some prepackaged Sara Lee sweet rolls, and cook-yourself waffles. The eating area seemed inadequate for the size of the hotel, but since all of the plates, cups, and cutlery were cheap disposables, there was no issue taking breakfast back to your room. During our stay in mid-May, there was one bus full of tourists and another bus full of students. While not really a problem for us, it may indicate that the Kelly Inn caters to bus groups, with the crowding issues inherent to that, especially at breakfast.

The members of the staff seemed universally friendly and helpful. Any issues we had would be with corporate decisions, not local staffing.

The location is right outside the park gate, but West Yellowstone is tiny, so even the farthest hotel is only about six blocks from the park gate. There were a number of other hotels in town that appeared to be about the same quality as this. There was a McDonald's sharing the same parking lot, far enough away to not cause any noise or congestion issues. Several higher quality eating establishments were walking distance. We tried and liked Sydney's Mountain Bistro, Beartooth Barbeque, and Rocky Mountain Pete's Pizza. The Running Bear Pancake House was also good, a short drive away, and a pleasant improvement over the free hotel breakfast.

At Kelly Inn we had an agreement for room and breakfast. The room was OK. Very much a typical "Inn" room. The rooms were quite new offered a fridge and micro. That's it then.

The so called breakfast - should be continental was even for US version spartanic. The coffee was as thin as tee. All things were prepacked stuff nothing fresh.

Most of the staff was unfriendly and did not even clean up the breakfast tables in the morning.

From a price / value perspective no up to the standards. Well it is West Yellowstone and the options are limited - so this seams to give them the only reason to survive.

My wife and I stayed here and were quite pleased with the facility and staff.

When we first got there as soon as we walked in the room the couple in the next room has a screaming baby. Wanting a good nights rest before we toured Yellowstone the next day we asked for a different room and the front desk accomodated our request immediately.

The rooms are niced sized and clean. We thought the wooden bears around the outside of the place were cute. Although I was startled early the next morning when I forgot they were wooden and thought a bear was on the roof. We wife thought it was funny and we got a good laugh out of it.

Many restaurants and shopping within walking distance and its close to the west entrance of Yellowstone.

We would recommend this place to other Yellowstone travelers.

My family stayed at the Kelly Inn for three nights the first part of August. It was clean the beds were decent. The park truly is right outdside the West entrance of the park which is a plus. The continetal breakfast is a madhouse about 7:00 in the morning beacuse everyone is trying to get to the park. It is the typical motel carbfest. Some bacon or sausage would have been appreciated. I dont regret staying there but it its certainly not worth $180 a night.

We arrived mid afternoon and wanted a nice place to stay. This looked like it fitted the bill. The we had a 2 king bed room which was fine. It seemed that they were trying to get all their suites occupied first though as there was a discussion by the desk staff about the fact that we had been offered a room and not a suite. I don't know if this is standard practice or not but something to be aware of.

The room itself was fine, beds ok, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. There was also coffee in the lobby area available all the time. Our room was on he first floor so we had 2 access doors one directly from the parking area and one from the hotel corridor. So this was very handy for unloading and loading.

The breakfast was good but very busy. The queue for the waffle maker was prohibitive if you had somewhere else to be.

The only niggle is that the pool seems to have been very heavily chlorinated. My kids could hardly see after they had been swimming, and still had sore eyes the next day.

In summary a nice hotel but pricey.

Stayed four nights in mid August at $200 per night for a room with two King beds.

Pros - Within a half mile of the west entrance to Yellowstone and West Yellowstone is a nice town with lots of places to eat and shop.

Cons-Really cannot say anything bad expect we thought is was pretty expensive for our room.

Hotel is clean, normal fare for continental breakfast. Pool is OK.
