“cozy, warm and so comfortable!”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Let me start off by saying it was so comfortable I didn't want to leave... for all the travelers, let me say - comfortable beds, lots of puffy pillows with the crispy clean linen spell (like!), nice big flat screen TV, fridge, lodge pole furniture (like!) , a cute little bear peeking in my room from the window (don't worry just a wood sculpture), and air/heat that I could control...need more? Just go there, you will love it!!! Enjoy the park, if you can get yourself to leave the room.

Room Tip: I brought my in-laws that needed handicap accessible rooms - and they were right next to us on the t...

We just completed a week's photographic tour of Yellowstone and staged out of the Kelly Inn. It was the perfect place for our needs. The rooms are very spacious and immaculate. The staff are all professional, and exceptionally helpful. A special thanks goes to Heidi who went out of her way to ensure that our group's needs were met. As an example, we departed early for a sunrise shoot and the chef provided breakfast food specifically for our group an hour and a half early. That was customer service well beyond what we could have hoped for! The location of the hotel is close to the west park entrance of the park and within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants, but is located just enough off the main streets to be delightfully quiet. This is a great place.

Room Tip: We had a total of 7 rooms and everyone was pleased with their room. I do not believe there are any b...

Such a comfortable room! The Breakfast was okay. It is a nice feature to save money on eating out.Because we know that eating out in a tourist town can get pretty expensive! The staff is really friendly and the rooms are very clean.I would definitely recommend it to my friends!

The room for 2 came to just over $220 a night. We stayed 3 nights. The rooms are decorated very cute for the area with nice touches of moose, bear and such here and there. The headboards are rustic pine log which is perfect for Yellowstone! The rooms are otherwise completely standard motel rooms, no surprises. We were downstairs by the stairway to the 2nd and 3rd floors. I strongly recommend you request to NOT be by the stairs! Fri/Sat nights were busy with late arrivals and you heard them up and down. (There is an elevator, but not everyone uses that) Also, these walls must be paper thin because the water from upstairs went gushing through the pipes inside our bathroom wall. It was very loud and not the normal sounds you hear from shared pipes in the walls. For the price, I'd look elsewhere to where the rooms are quieter than these. Those are my only two complaints, and if we'd been in another room, I might not even have those gripes, who knows?

Breakfast was good enough and the gentleman in charge of it was patient and accommodating. There was a busload of Asian travelers who could not speak English. The language barrier proved unfortunate, as he was trying desperately to explain and beg for them to NOT put foam cups of milk in the microwave (again). They hadn't faired well a minute ago, and he had a huge mess to clean up, and then they were trying to do it all over again! Oh my! It would have been comical if not so trying for the host. Hats off to him for keeping his cool. And for such a good spread of foods! For not being allowed (Montana law) to cook food there, they had good quality foods to heat and serve. The OJ was a little lacking in taste, but otherwise all was great.

We had our labrador with us and there was plenty of walking areas with grass. The parking lot is well lit and safe. There are other nice lodging establishments all around Kelly Inn and it seemed to be on a newer side of town, lodging wise. Not sure if we'd go back because the price is so steep and we're hardly in the room at all. May try renting an RV for Y.N.P. next time we are in that area.

Room Tip: Upstairs away from staircase or elevator.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your recent stay. As you noted, breakfast can be quite a challenging experience for our staff every morning and each guest review has shared varying opinions as to the quality of our offerings and service. We appreciate that you added your rather unique and amusing observations as well. We're glad to hear that you appreciated our efforts to add more variety to the standard cereal and danish "continental" breakfast.

We're sorry that the plumbing from above was noisy in your particular room. All of the walls in our hotel are actually 6 inches thick with sound board insulation and of course a layer of drywall on each side but there is also an additional layer of plywood sheathing inside any wall where there are plumbing pipes. Although that code requirement is supposed to help add structural integrity and help alleviate the noise from water flowing inside the pipes, from practical experience, only a concrete wall building does much good to insulate sound from water falling three stories.

For those seeking the quietest rooms we recommend our third floor rooms, but unfortunately our third floor is also a pet free floor. For those with pets seeking an additional outside entrance for convenience we recommend our first floor rooms. However, as with any pet room or room next to a stairway or elevator, they can be subject to noise from other guests. A lodging facility the size of ours that routinely services up to 300 guests at once offers many choices in priorities. That is why we always recommend our guests book directly with the hotel over the phone as early as possible when planning their trip. That way they can discuss their needs and preferences directly with our professional front desk staff who can match them to the best fit of room type and location and lock it in while they are still available. For those seeking a smaller or more modest priced lodging choice where breakfast, pool, internet and other amenities are not a priority, our staff is just as happy to recommend many other fine choices in the area that might be worth looking into. We highly recommend TripAdvisor as the best tool for researching the many choices in the Yellowstone area to help determine those facilities that best meet the budget, amenity and location needs as well as the ability to read so many unbiased personal reviews from so many actual guests who have taken the time to submit reviews of their experiences. We appreciate that you took the time to add your unique experience to our long list of reviews even if you should choose to try another lodging choice that might fit your personal needs better on your next visit. Thank you for giving us a try.

We have no compalints about the Kelly Inn. We had a third floor room, which was very spacious and nicely decorated. The pool and spa were relatively big and in nice surroundings. The staff were very pleasant, without fail. For a base outside the park we could not have been closer to the park entrance, and it was useful to be able to walk to eat places, and also over the road to the Grizzly and Wolf,Discovery Centre, It wasn't cheap, but no-where in West Yellowstone is. We would stay again, and recommend it to friends.

If everything else is full and there's nowhere else to stay, and you can't convince your wife to sleep in the car, then this will do. It's overpriced (even by the West Yellowstone standards). The breakfast is mediocre at best and doesn't add any real value to the stay. The room is clean, but don't expect to get a good night's sleep.

Just about the time I started to fall asleep, the air conditioner came on. I swear it sounded like someone was pilfering through the room. All the knocking, clacking, and popping coming from the unit was incredibly annoying. Then it would stop. 20 minutes later it all starts up again.... all night long.

When I informed the front desk, they were less than interested in my issue. They were apologetic, but didn't offer to take any actions to address the problem. For the money spent, you should expect a little peace and quiet. At the very least, you'd expect some level of concern from management.

This place is overpriced and it under-delivers. There's no quality or service.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your stay. We're sorry that the AC unit kept you awake. We actually use individual room heat pump PTAC units because the air temp here is very mellow most of the year. When they are set to cool below the current room temp and the compressors kick on they do make a rumbling sound. It is a normal and unavoidable part of the PTAC unit designs somewhat different than you might have at home. We're sorry that the front desk clerk could not do anything to alter the way the unit operated during the night but he did make a report to maintenance to check the unit the next morning and it was found to be functioning properly. The PTAC units can be turned to fan only for quieter air movement so the compressor does not turn on. We also have screened windows in every room for those who prefer to leave the PTAC units turned off since the air outside is generally around 50-60 degrees at night in Sept.

We are sorry to hear that you felt the hotel was over priced for the amenities offered. At this time of year we find that many folks decide to come to Yellowstone without reservations and having done no research as to the prices and amenities of the lodging choices in the area. When they find that most hotels are sold out and see what the prices here are they are often disappointed to have to spend more than they had planned. There are many more affordable hotels in the area that we would be happy to recommend for those whose primary concern is value over amenities but they are also usually sold out early. TripAdvisor can be an excellent tool to use to do research before planning a trip to avoid surprises or disappointment as well as a way to express dissatisfaction after an unplanned trip. Obviously we would recommend that our potential guests use their time reading the reviews before planning their trip so that they are not disappointed after traveling so far and have to share a poor experience after the fact. We are sorry that we did not live up to your expectations but we appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with others so that they might take the time to be better informed before they plan their trip and make their lodging choice.
