“A surprising find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

We came to the Smokejumper Cafe based on other TripAdvisor reviews and were super pleased! It was simultaneously a little odd and pleasant to leave the "touristy" West Yellowstone strip and drive out to the airport for lunch.
The owner provided great, friendly service. My daughter's Black and Blue burger was excellent. You can't fake fresh!
My wife wanted a breakfast burrito for lunch, which the owner was able to accommodate, and it was delicious. Our travel plans didn't allow us to return the next morning, but we would have.

“Much better than it looks from the curb.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

My husband and I were looking for lunch in West Yellowstone after eating Park food for 2 days. Liked the reviews on Tripadvisor so decided to give it a try.
We pulled up to the hanger at the WY Airport and almost didn't go in but decided to at least look at the menu.
This time of yr it looks like a one man operation. Waiter, chef and owner are all one great guy.
My husband ordered the Lobster Bisque. Unlike what I've had in Maine where some restaurants wave a lobster over the soup pot, this bisque had chunks of lobster in it. Maybe some crostini instead of Saltines would be a better choice.
I ordered and devoured the Lobster Roll. So nice to find one east of Maine that is just Lobster and a little melted butter. NO MAYO was such a delight. The fries were crisp and well seasoned. Both the owner and myself bemoaned not being able to find a split top roll east of the Mississippi. We will definitely visit again when we pass thru WY. He is only open during summer months so call ahead if its shoulder season.

“GREAT GLUTEN FREE MENU!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

My husband and I traveled to Yellowstone and saw Smoke Jumper Cafe had a gluten free menu on a phone app we have. What we did not know was how knowledgeable James Killinger, Owner, was about Celiac Disease! We had the best cheeseburger sandwich and fries and the next day ate a great waffle for breakfast and got a BLT to go! The quality of the bread was superior and he really has gone out of his way to make sure those who must have gluten free diet can eat quality food, have a huge variety, and not worry about cross contamination. We ate at another restaurant in town which claimed to be "gluten free" and my husband got sick soon after we ate there. After eating at Smoke Jumper Cafe and seeing the options of food and knowing he would not get sick this was such a jewel to find. The owner also offers a variety of specials throughout the week. He can also make you items in advance if you speak with him. On our next visit to Yellowstone this will be the main place we eat! Great service and food was delicious!

“Great Food and Amazing Service!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

The owner of the restaurant, James, goes out of his way to cook for a variety of dietary needs! His menu has gluten free and even one or two vegetarian options. He offers a variety of specials throughout the week, from lobster bisque, a south of the border burger, fish and chips, rib eye steak, and many other delicious entrees you wouldn't think would be available in such a small restaurant!

This cafe is small and homey with all the comforts of a small town place! James makes an effort to come around and check in with all of the customers. His waitress is equally cheerful and welcoming! The food, prices, atmosphere, and cheerful attitudes make this the best place in West Yellowstone to eat!

“Great Gluten-Free Breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

We had read the reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to make this a stop on our trip through Yellowstone, and it was well worth it! James was the only one around the morning we visited and was great as both waiter and chef. Everything can be made gluten-free for breakfast--even the waffles, which we have rarely come across on our trips, even in big cities. The coffee was great, the waffles and my "Bomb" (without the wrap) were fantastic! The kids thought the waffles were the best ever! How James can accomplish all this as a one-man show in West Yellowstone is amazing. We also ordered sandwiches which we brought with us when hiking Yellowstone later that day and those were excellent as well! James is clearly passionate about his service and food. This is really another gem of the Yellowstone area!
