Convenient to Yellowstone

Review of Holiday Motel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 31, 2016via mobile
We stayed at this Holiday Inn for a pretty penny. It was a matter of convenience to be close to Yellowstone. It was clean and nice and seemed relatively new or newly remodeled. If you are looking for a bargain, you might want to look elsewhere. For us, it was worth it as we split Yellowstone up into 2 days with our large family. We planned our trip too late to try to get reservations inside the park. But, we wanted to stay really close to the park so we could get in as much as possible the next day.

This was also a pleasantly surprising find for us in Yellowstone. It's located 5 mins from the park entrance and is also bang opposite an awesome pancake place. The owner/manager of the Motel used to be a park ranger and gave us useful tips on which places to hit in the park for bear sightings. We visited in the week when most of the park opened up - so his tips were very useful. The motel has a very rustic feel including the appliances in the room.

We arrived at Yellowstone National Park without reservations and, of course, the place was booked solid, even in late September. So, we drove into West Yellowstone since that’s the most convenient gateway city. There are places on the main drag – Yellowstone Avenue – but after some searching online, we chose the Holiday Motel. It’s a nice quiet budget motel located a few blocks from the rest.

The room we had was very roomy and comfortable. The two double beds were covered with beautiful quilts and it felt very homelike. The bathroom looked brand new and was very clean with a nice shower. The room had a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, things we always find useful.

One possible downside for some is that the room just had a simple lock in the doorknob. There was no extra bolt lock or chain lock. We weren’t concerned but some might not like that. We stayed three nights and were very comfortable.

In addition to the quiet, another nice thing about the location of the Holiday Motel is that it’s only about a block from a great breakfast place, the Running Bear Pancake House.

    I would recommend this motel.
We booked for three a three night stay in the motel , however after getting caughtout by a huge hold up at security at Las Vegas airport we missed our plane. Phoned to say would be a day late getting there, no problem was the reassuring reply. We arrived to find that there was no charge for the night we missed (i was amazed), they managed to move things around so we could still have the length of stay we required, if fact we added a day!
The Motel is at the quiet end of a small town so nowhere is far away, there's a great breakfast resturant across the road and the entrance of the park is about a mile away. It has all you could need from a budget motel, the bed was comfortable, the shower was good and the room was spotlessly clean, with the added bonus that the owners are very nice helpful people who turned a potential nightmare into a pleasant experience....

Spacious room, comfortable beds, nice owners. Like in most hotels and motels in the US, the walls are very thin, therefore you can hear your neighbors very good. Wifi worked well. Lot of possibilities for food, but nothing inside the motel. Totally fine for one night, if you have a car.

This is a "family run" motel. We stayed 4 nights. Soap and in-room coffee was only refreshed once (by specific request) and never again after that request. Pillows are flat. Our room was separated from the neighboring room by a hollow core door. So when we had neighbors (2 nights) they may as well have been in our room with their loud TV, coughing and hacking. The toilet leaked to the floor with each flush and most times continued to "run" requiring a jiggle of the handle to refill the tank. Although "no vacancy" was posted during our entire stay it was obvious that most rooms were unoccupied. Not sure if this is related to the rooms being out-of-service due to maintenance issues or lack of staff for daily cleaning, etc. A refrigerator and microwave were available as well as an in-room coffee maker (just no new coffee unless you ask for it.) Daily cleaning was marginal at best. Water pressure was good.
