Only about 8 miles west of Great Falls, this park is a must see. I say this after spending the last 10 days at the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone & Glacier National Park. After visisting tge cisitor center and paying the non-resident $5 fee, we took in the museum and the 15-20 minute talk. Afterwards we drive to the top of the jumo sute and were in awe of the drop off as well as the view...

There is so much history to learn here and the people who work there are very knowledgeable. The center has tons of information about the native americans in the area. They include the children in the conversation and get them to think about what it was like as a tribe member at their age. Just the free brochures are informative but the gift shop has great books and gift items. Go early in the morning if you go in the summer and do the walk up to the butte. Since there is no shade, it gets very hot in the sun. It's an amazing trail with lots of info. The view from the top of the butte is beautiful. The prairie dogs are very funny looking. It's just a 10 minutes drive from Great Falls. This is a state park so the entry fee for the day will work at other state parks.

try to add this when in Montana! The sense of history and the view is incredible! The hike was the best part however; you can drive to the top. It is just a few miles from great falls and worth it!

I had never heard of this buffalo hunting method before. The lecture by the staff was very informative & the interactive museum was top-notch. But the best part of the venture was to actually go to the ledge (a short drive or moderate walk) and imagine utilizing the methods you just acquired to harvest a 2,000 pound animal - WOW !!!! The prairie dogs along the way are entertaining, but the real drama is actually standing on the "jump-cliff" and pretending you are running ahead of hundreds of huge beasts & you have to go over the cliff first. Admission was free. There is a small gift shop on site. The buffalo jerky is actually quite tasty.

The park service and staff have done a lot to this attraction. There's lots of history here for a buffalo jump. It's the best one I've seen and it's always improving. A great walk in the spring. Be careful in the summer, there are rattlers out but nothing to fear, just be aware. Great prairie dog town just before the top entrance of the park. A must see to appreciate. Make sure you see the visitor center as there is a lot to see.
