Imagine the pressure of planning accommodations for 10 motorcyclists on a 4 day loop from Calgary to Helena and back. Add to the mix that the age range is from 25 to 58, the weather is iffy, and most of us are related ……

See my relief when we arrived at the Laughing Horse Lodge to find it everything promised on the website, and more! The Lodge oozes charm, and a blackboard on the front step listed directions to the rooms prepared for us. Kathleen greeted us as we were settling in, with offers of coffee or beer – and we all chorused ‘beer’! It had been a long ride, and we were stopped for the night, so it was time to unwind. This rider especially appreciated the bubble bath provided!

The lounge is cozy, with well stocked library, beer on tap and a selection of wines available on the honour system and TV for those inclined. Lovely flower beds bloomed amid art treasures and surrounded an outdoor courtyard - a delightful surprise and the perfect place to recount the sights of our trip. The rooms are laid out in an L-shape and linked together by a wooden porch. The rooms were quaint, comfortable and clean.

Dinner was wonderful – plenty to choose from for the carnivores and the veggie folks. Very reasonable prices, everything was tasty – and my advice to all is to leave room for dessert!

The hot breakfast included was much more than anticipated – I arrived last to our table, and made the mistake of thinking that the hot cereal, fresh fruit, scones and coffee was ‘all’ there was. But that was just the first course!

Kathleen is refreshingly forthright and extremely competent – and great fun! Treat yourself to her great hospitality and book into the Laughing Horse Lodge.

While staying in Big Fork, Montana, we had several people tell us not to miss eating at the Laughing Horse Lodge in nearby Swan Lake. We were glad we wasted no time trying it out because it was such a treat, we made sure we got back again before our trip ended a few days later. The owner of the lodge is an absolutely delightful lady and incredible cook!! She has a small lodge with nicely furnished rooms that we wished we'd known about before we booked ours. Both meals there were just incredible - breakfast is a real speciality - and the owner so personable and fun is made for a great vacation experience. Next trip to the area (and we can't wait!!) will definitely include a return visit!!

This is a wonderful place with a wonderful atmosphere. The owner is extremely congenial as is the server in the restauarnt. The food is excellent and is right up there with any 4 or 5 star restaurant.

The rooms are very spacious, comfortable and well decorated.

My Husband, my dog and I spent a few delightful days at Laughing Horse Lodge in Swan Lake, MT and had an excellent time. It is in a lovely location, with comfortable, quaint rooms. However, the part that amazed me was the quality of the food. Kathleen, the owner is truly a whiz in the kitchen, her entrees were creative and delicious. Her wonderful dogs Nikki and Cooper made my Golden Retriever, Annie feel right at home! I suggest the lodge to anyone needing a quiet, restful, out-of-the-way place to relax and have some great food and since well-behaved pets are welcome, it was the perfect place for us.
Thanks, Kathleen.

It doesn't look like much when driving by, but this place is a jewel. Situated on RT 83 between Big Fork and Missoula, it's the gateway to many activities. The rooms have all been remodeled, have comfy platform beds, origional art on the walls, fridge, micro, antique but functional furniture.

The bath room wasn't fancy, but the tub was deep enough to bathe in and the shower had great pressure. It was CLEAN, and is even pet friendly - we usually don't like pet friendly hotels because they aren't usually as clean as they could be, but there was no sign (or smell) of pets having been in this room.

Best of all, the rate included a 2 course gourmet breakfast! I wish we could have stayed for dinner in the small restauarant or been able to curly up by the fire in the book filled lounge.

We were there on business, but would love to go back for pleasure...if you are in the vacinity, don't drive by this place for one of the chain hotels along the highway - you would really be missing out on something special.

After making the grand loop from White Fish through Glacier Park to St. Mary, then back around to Kalispell, we found ourselves without lodgings. Searching down as far as Somers, on Flathead Lake, we paused for dinner, then tried to beat the sundown to a bed somehwere along Rte 209. With darkness upon us and a long road ahead, we spied the welcoming lights of the Laughing Horse Lodge. The inn was full, but a guest had'nt shown up... so the proprietor Kathleen, showed us to a log cabin room, provided us with bubble bath and 2 glasses of wine to settle our nerves. The morning sun brought clear skies and a sumptuous breakfast of fresh berry scones, coffee and Rocky Mountain Blintzes (made with ricotta cheese and canadian ham). We've paid a lot more for a lot less.

We just spent 4 nights at the Laughing Horse Lodge in Swan Lake, MT and had an excellent time. It is located on the lake and close to Bigfork, Kalispell, Whitefish and Glacier National Park. The owner, Kathleen, was very knowledgable of the area's activities such as hiking, horseback riding, canoeing and kayaking - to name a few. But the best part is that she is a great cook and we were very surprised to be served gourmet meals in the middle of Montana. And since we live in the SF Bay Area it is hard to surprise us with great food! This lodge has a relaxed atmosphere and is totally dog friendly. Thanks to Nikki and Cooper, the big friendly Golden Retrievers - our dog had a great time too! Thanks, Kathleen, for making our stay so enjoyable.
