I loved staying here for many reasons. After 4 nights of sleeping in a tent with our 6 year old in the freezing rain and snow, we decided that maybe we should consider a motel outside the park. With no plans or reservations, we checked out of our campsite 3 days early and headed for the northeast entrance of the park. Upon exiting out the park gate, we crossed a beautiful river and at the bank of the river on the right hand side was this cute and cozy rustic hotel - The Grizzly Lodge! We pulled in thinking, ok this place is pretty and right outside the gate of the park. To our Delight, they had one room left - which happened to be a 2 bedroom! I am not going to tell you the price, but let's just say, it was a GREAT deal!!! . Gardner, the Manager of the property, is a wonderful guy. He not only was super attentive to all the hotel guests' needs, but we feel we made a true friend for life. He recommended amazing restaurants, chatted with us whenever we saw him around the hotel property or town, and even let us take his dogs fishing with us in the river - which was hilarious in itself for our 6 year old that played with the dogs every chance she had. The BEST part of this hotel, is every night, they do a campfire in their firepit along the river banks. It's a wonderful thing to experience while staying in a hotel anywhere, but the location of this motel along the river and at the edge of town is remarkably beautiful! The rooms are rustic, and could definitely use some updating, but they are clean and well stocked, and that is what is more important. Besides, you could walk from one edge of this town to the other in less than 10 minutes, so i would imagine that all the accommodations in this town are comparable. Would we stay here again - DEFINITELY. FYI, cell phones do not work in this town, nor is there internet, so please - try to relax and enjoy being disconnected for a few wonderful days in this beautiful part of the world ;)

I have stayed here often over the years. I like the "Boy Scout Camp" feel to the place. The rooms are Spartan and the beds are comfortable with a nice light above the bed. The rooms are clean and have that 1950s 'I don't need much to be happy' feel to them. There is a small charge for dogs. There are no amenities- just soap, towels, toilet paper, and shampoo. I bring a coffee maker. There are two well-stocked fun stores just down or across the road. There are rooms with kitchens available. I like to stay here for more than just a few days to get into the atmosphere of the park. Pre-dawn SLOW drives down into the park will give you glimpses of the creatures of the night: fox, grizzlies, elk, deer and moose on the road or in nearby meadows. Remember, TIME and CHANCE will present these animals; the longer you stay and relax, the more you are apt to encounter. I once had a grizzly stand up on its hind legs just across the road and sniff at me before it ran into the woods! Last week there was a large herd of elk just off the road and a badger sparring with a fox. The place is quiet and wonderfully spooky at night and right near a swift creek that -along with the white-crowned sparrows- gives a lovely sound. .

Room Tip: There are rooms with kitchenettes available.

This place is clean, but the curtains were torn. Wouldn't take much to replace them. However, I feel that they charge too much for a room that is so dated looking. I'm fine with a basic motel, but not when I'm paying a non-basic price.

You will never stay anywhere more remote than the Grizzly Lodge. We arrived to the exterior door motel to find the room freezing and windows open. I had images of sleeping in every bit of clothing in my suitcase! Thankfully the heat worked well and the room heated up nicely. Bed was comfy with plenty of blankets. TV did not work, so got a good sleep instead. Staff were difficult to locate as no phones in the room. Don't plan on any wifi or signal for your cell. Actually a good chance to relax and get some sleep.

Room Tip: Further from the office as possible to avoid traffic noise.

This area is rustic and just what I was looking for. 5 Star accommodations is not my style when staying in the remote mountains of Montana. So, if you are looking for that, bring your own luxury motor home. Grizzly Lodge or any of the surrounding cabins or motels are older and have lots of character. The cabins were clean and quaint. The grounds were beautiful with a wonderful fire pit that everyone sat around each night. You can hear and see the Soda Butte Creek that winds past and around the the lodge. The views are peaceful and will put you in a calming state-of-mind. Silver Gate as a whole, is friendly and relaxing.

We have stayed at Grizzly Lodge several times over the past several years. The proprietors are wonderful and very accommodating and the prices are good. The Lodge was built in the 50's era but many of the rooms have been updated. The rooms are clean and beds are good. Don't expect a brand-new hotel but the rooms are cozy and pleasant and the lodge is rustic and blends with the setting. There is a large grassy area adjacent to the rooms with a picnic table and a large firepit for bonfires in the evening. Upon request the lodge will have a bonfire in the evening for the guests to enjoy and sit around. Frequently we have seen wildlife around at the lodge or in the close proximity. We have enjoyed our stays at the Lodge and will continue to stay there when we are in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room
