Wrell,

the surroundings may be nice and it's very close to yellowstone with lots of wildlife, but the motel was totaly outdated and had no services. A cup of warm water for a tea was really a problem and the look on the face of the owner was very strange when asking it.
We're not here to watch tv either, but there really was a documentary going all day long (earth).
Was happy to use as much time as possibel with to days yellowstone and only come here for sleeping.
The room didn't feel very clean and was a bit dark, i really would go for another place next time, but i guess much of it can be made very nice, the location at the river is nice, the FOR SALE sign saids it all, tjhe owners had given up the place and want to sell it...
So if they succeed maybe a new owner will fix it up and then it's
probleby one of the best places to be.

Great view of Bear Tooth mountains could not compensate for gravel grounds, almost non-existent wireless, no ice machines, no coffee. Road work from Silver Gate to Cooke City did not help dust pollution. Glad to get out and back to Yellowstone.

We have stayed at the Grizzly Lodge in Silver Gate at least once or twice each summer for the last several years. Accomodations are very basic and even rustic, but spotlessly clean and the location is in one of the most gorgeous settings you'll ever find. Decent cafe nearby (some better 5 miles away in Cooke City), and a surprisingly well stocked general store with excellent coffee just across the road. Soda Butte Creek surrounds this property on three sides, and only adds to the jaw-dropping atmosphere of this scenic spot.

People staffing the place are very pleasant; the owner can come across at first glance as a tad gruff, but is actually a most pleasant person with a wealth of info and stories to tell.

If you want the Four Seasons, go to Jackson Hole, but if you want to be in a gorgeous mountain setting away from the JH/Yellowstone crowds, stay in this 'undiscovered' gem of a place. And...the best part of Yellowstone starts only a quarter of a mile away!!

I organized 8 nights on the road for our motorcycle group about a month before we took our trip from Idaho to South Dakota. This is the only place we had a problem. About 2 weeks before we took off, I had to call the motels to cancel a few rooms (due to people who dropped out). The policy here is 48 hours cancellation. I kept meticulous notes of my conversations. When we got to Grizzly Lodge, we were forced to pay for 5 rooms even though my notes showed that I had cancelled all but 4!!! The woman who worked there was nice but obviously in fear of her boss (the owner). So, I took it up with him and he was an unreasonable, grouchy old man. WE WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN AT A PLACE WITH SUCH POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - there are other options in the area and in Cooke City a few miles away. There wasn't much I could do since they had my credit card information. I am also reporting them to the BBB. DON'T STAY HERE!

Great value, not the Ritz... We spent two nights in early August and had a great time. The room are spartan but clean and the shower pressure is low but felt great after a day of hiking and fishing in one of the most beautiful places on earth! The view from the parking lot is so wide screen Super HD that you will not notice the limited viewing on the TV in the room. You can catch cutthroat trout right under the bridge that leads you into the Grizzly and walk the stream towards the park and see moose and deer or mountian goats in the high country ( bears and wolves have been seen in this area but more so in the Lamar). The Lodge Cafe next door is a good place to eat and the building is a log cabin built from local lodge pole pines in 1937... It is a beautiful log building.
Three mile down the road (I don't have to say which road because there is only one) is Cooke City a couple of resturant choices, need I say more! a Trading Post and casino, fly fishing shop, garage mechanics, a cell signal.
A great get away! Tons of wildlife and spectacular views

We stayed at the Grizzly Lodge for four nights and really enjoyed it there. It was very peaceful and quiet with a lovely view!

The accomodations were very basic and the room was small. We had room #1, which has two twin beds. The beds were very comfortable and not hard as bricks, like some motel beds! The room was very clean & had a full sized bathroom. (Like would one have in their home, not the small motel type.)

The water pressure wasn't very good... so the shower wasn't very strong, but it was sufficient.

There are no ammentities... no phone, basically no TV, no internet, no cell phone service in the area. The TV does show ONE satellite channel, but the same channel all the time, which was a religious channel. Management played two movies (on two seperate channels) each night via DVD in the office, so there was something to watch, however you had no real idea of what was going to play or when it was going to play.

Personally, this wasn't a problem for us as we came to the area to enjoy the great outdoors, not to sit in the motel room & watch TV! It would've been nice to catch the local news/weather forecasts, though. Parents with young children may want to bring along a small/cheap DVD player to play their own movies!

There is a nice picnic area at the Grizzly Lodge with a fire pit and two gas grills that can be used for grilling. Unfortunately, while we were there the fire threat was very high so there were no fires to be had in the fire pit! I wanted to grill out, but ended up too tired most evenings and chose to eat out instead.

I would have no problems staying at the Grizzly Lodge again and hope to do so in a year or two when we return to the park. This is a great place to stay if you understand what it is you're getting. This is not the Ritz! Just a nice little spot near the park!

We spend 3 nights at the Grizzly Lodge, and it was ok... We decided to go to Yellowstone too late to have a lot of choices, plus we did have a budget, and Grizzly lodge had availability + good rates. The rooms are very very basic, I mean no amenities at all, just a TV (on the wrong side of the bed, so you couldn't see from the bed, just from the chairs) that just show a satellite tv always set on a religion channel (!) and 2 dvd channels, that just show a nice film per evening, but couldn't know which and when.
No big deals, but you are in the middle of nowhere, so during the night would have be nice to see at least News or something.

No phone, no fridge,no closet (just to hang clothes, not for t-shirt or pullover), poor shower (not enough power), no internet in the whole town. No breakfast served, but nice possibilty for BBQ on their garden outside.
By the way,Lee Ann, the owner was one of the nicest lady we ever met, always friendly and explaining us all the animals that they have during the night at Grizzly Lodge.

The northest entrance of the Park is very panoramic, compared to West Yellowstone or Gardiner, but the people who runs business in Silver Gate and Cooke City really need to have some "how to treat tourists" tips.... so rude! And so expensive! Gas station in Cooke City was more expensive that inside the park! 3,90 versus 3,29!! just 2-3 Restaurants, all average, couple of shops to buy tourists crap, and one general stores, with nothing to buy.

Next time I'd pick most likely Gardiner as base point.
