“Best location in Shelby!!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

The owners are beyond incredible! They have put so much heart into this historical motel. The picture on Trip advisor must be updated!! The layout is amazing. It's like home. They have real neighbors with real homes across the street and down the block, Churches, Library, Main Street and more all within walking distance! We stayed in a new room, which was so cozy. Grilled out on the open land and didn't get disturbed by traffic or train noise, unlike other locations in town. We really enjoyed the warm atmosphere and positive energy here. The only negative thing was one of the desk clerks had major hygiene issues. He smelled so bad. You could visibly see he never brushes his teeth. He also seemed distracted by his computer. I hope the owners see this and tell David to clean up, he is bad for business! ! We will be back, we love it and Thank you for the great stay!

What a bunch of whiners! This is a 1950's Motel! This is not the Best Western Beverly Hills! I have stayed here many times in the last 22 yrs, the rooms are clean and quiet. The carpet is brown....... oh my, no beige carpets here, Princess! We were allowed to park our bikes right inside the garage, no worrie about damage or theft, just ask NICELY!!!!!!!! The fellow at the front desk was more than accomodating, even leant a hand. I had to walk to the lobby for coffee...... darn near killed me.......... Just the same as a "Super" place in Conrad, twice the price on a railway track........... and the train goes by every hour!!!!!!!! Its on a hill, if youre scared of heights or tipping over??? you better park your car ( that is designed to follow a 45 degree incline, by the way) at the bottom and call a cab or walk! And the hill goes up, not over.......... what do these people smoke????? Clearly cant get it in Alberta. Excellent place to crash considering its 60+ yrs old!

We stayed here one night on our way back to Canada after a week biking in the USA. It was one of the nicest rooms we stayed in on our trip. The room was very clean - very spacious - comfortable beds. Everything we needed. The owners were very helpful. This was one of the best values we had on our trip - way better than some places we stayed that had great reviews and way higher prices. Highly recommend.

Not all of the lights works, the faucet in the bathroom sink would not shut off completely, hardly any hot water, the floor board heaters did not work we only had a space heater which did not totally warm up the room. Also there were electric outlets that to be perfectly honest did not look safe and looked like they were hanging on by a thin wire. I would spend the extra money and stay at a different motel.

Room Tip: Go to the Comfort Inn

I stayed here one night while passing through Montana.

This motel is a 'classic' 1950s era motel from the days of "Route 66" (in this case, Route 2). It is not fancy, but it is extremely clean and very well maintained. All the stuff that you would want to be original (beautiful ceramic tiles in the bathroom, original bathroom fixtures, etc.) is original - and perfect condition - and all the stuff that you would want to be totally modern (the mattress, the flat-screen TV, etc.) is totally modern.

The motel has an indoor garage - quite unusual for a motel - that is certainly a nice luxury to have in the middle of winter or at the height of summer.

Friendly staff, very good value.

The only "problem" is that Shelby is a railroad town - the BNSF railway main line runs through town. So, you hear the train whistles about once an hour. The O'Haire Motel is about 3 blocks away from the rail yard (all the other hotels and motels in the town are right across the street from the railroad line), so it is probably the quietest place in the town. But... if you don't like train whistles, don't stay overnight in Shelby!

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first. The staff are happy to show you the different rooms available.

We got there late at night and there happened to be a room available. The room was clean, but the bathroom light came on by its self, and the beds were not the most comfortable. Mostly hard and lumpy. When I told the desk about the beds and the light, they promptly refunded my money and promised to fix the issues I had with the room. They are remodeling parts of the motel. The staff was great, the motel lacked in the comforts of home. I guess we can't take home with us every where we go.

Room Tip: higher rooms are less noisy
