Rich's Montana Guest Ranch
Reviewed July 1, 2011

Amazing place! From the moment I got off the plane in Missoula, I was amazed by the beauty of Montana. I was met at the airport by Jack Rich whose family owns and runs the ranch. After a picturesque one hour drive to the ranch the other guests and I were shown to our cabins. My cabin was spacious and clean. There was a deck that faces the meadow where the horses graze at night. It was a breathtaking view with the mountains in the background.
I met Teton the horse I would be riding all week the next day. He proved to be perfect for my skill level. He was a great horse and really knew his way aroung the mountains. Every day there is the option to ride in the morning and afternoon. Or ride all day.
Also, in the afternoons there was the option to do a little sightseeing. The trip to the Garnett Ghost town was very interesting and fun with all the other guests and Steve our guide.
I opted for the overnight adventure. It was better than I expected. We rode for a couple of hours and then made camp. What a beautiful place to spend an evening under the stars. Shannon and David were our guides and they were exceptional at taking good care of us. Shannon cooked meals you would never expect to get in a wilderness camp. We ate well for sure. David is an expert horse and mule tender and took great care of the animals and was eager to help whatever the need. We were even fortunate enough to have a moose visit near our camp. The ride to the camp and back really felt like we were off the beaten path for sure. The high paths and raging rivers added to the adventure.
The last day back at the camp we went for a ride in the woods making our own trail. it was certainly an experience to remember. I met a wonderfull group of people that were there for the week. Belinda and Peggy made me I feel right at home from day 1. And the food was very tasty and I never left the table hungry. Good old fashioned comfort food.
This is my fifth trip out west. I can honestly say that Rich Ranch is the best trip yet !!!!!!!
I hope to be back soon.

We were up at Seeley Lake area boating for the day and decided to spend the night. They were the only ones with rooms. We stayed there and it was very nice. The people were so nice and the breakfast in the morning was great. It is a room with 2 long tables and chairs on each side. They ring the big bell when breakfast is ready so everyone can come. It is serve yourself and all you can eat for $8.00 each. There were so many choices and it tasted so good. Home cookin'. Everyone sits down and talks, the ranch hands come up for breakfast too. They were getting ready to take a bunch into the bob for 8 days. I was sorry I wasen't going with them, sounded fun. We will stay there again. There are mountian bikes to ride around the place on, a nice hot tub, ponds for fishing, the horses, movies to borrow and watch in your cabin. We watched them round up the horses that morning to get them ready for the ride, just out our cabin door.

The family at the ranch really makes you feel welcome in every way. The beds are sooo comfy! The meals never leave you hungry and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. If you like riding you will be in heaven! The staff will cater to whatever adventure you would like to try. Just tell them what you want to do and they will make it happen. I highly suggest trying the overnight pack out trip. I plan on going back next year.

My wife and I had a great time on a two-hour horseback riding tour into the mountains at Rich Ranch. The horses were super easy to ride and the owner of the ranch and his daughter who took us on the tour were enormously friendly and knowledgeable. My wife and I spent ten days on the road throughout the northern part of the United States and our time at Rich Ranch (though brief) was certainly a highlight!

To begin our 2 weeks trip in Montana and as we like riding, we choose the Rich ranch.
The location-a large openmeadow in the woods- is terrific.
The rooms(we had hunter's cabin n°3) are large, clean with 2 large queenbeds and a small queen..
There is a lot of space to organise between ride's clothes and the other.
Bathroom is sufficient(a tub) and there is a lavabo near it.
No phone, no TV(a screen for DVD), no A/C but you are not here for that...
The meals are excellent and the entire staff is nice(this is a family-owned and directed ranch).
The rides are tremendous-moovie like scenery and the all day ride to Pyramid lake should not be missed...
You can swimm in Salmon Lake(a 10 mn drive) and some wranglers are specialised in fishing.
One morning we saw a moose calf just at 30 feet from our door...
Only complaint : the diner is at 6 pm...but we are europeans so...
