Amazing place! From the moment I got off the plane in Missoula, I was amazed by the beauty of Montana. I was met at the airport by Jack Rich whose family owns and runs the ranch. After a picturesque one hour drive to the ranch the other guests and I were shown to our cabins. My cabin was spacious and clean. There was a deck that faces the meadow where the horses graze at night. It was a breathtaking view with the mountains in the background.
I met Teton the horse I would be riding all week the next day. He proved to be perfect for my skill level. He was a great horse and really knew his way aroung the mountains. Every day there is the option to ride in the morning and afternoon. Or ride all day.
Also, in the afternoons there was the option to do a little sightseeing. The trip to the Garnett Ghost town was very interesting and fun with all the other guests and Steve our guide.
I opted for the overnight adventure. It was better than I expected. We rode for a couple of hours and then made camp. What a beautiful place to spend an evening under the stars. Shannon and David were our guides and they were exceptional at taking good care of us. Shannon cooked meals you would never expect to get in a wilderness camp. We ate well for sure. David is an expert horse and mule tender and took great care of the animals and was eager to help whatever the need. We were even fortunate enough to have a moose visit near our camp. The ride to the camp and back really felt like we were off the beaten path for sure. The high paths and raging rivers added to the adventure.
The last day back at the camp we went for a ride in the woods making our own trail. it was certainly an experience to remember. I met a wonderfull group of people that were there for the week. Belinda and Peggy made me I feel right at home from day 1. And the food was very tasty and I never left the table hungry. Good old fashioned comfort food.
This is my fifth trip out west. I can honestly say that Rich Ranch is the best trip yet !!!!!!!
I hope to be back soon.
