This one was assigned to us when we tried to reserve Many Glacier Lodge. You really get no choices since the same concession controls all the hotels and restaurants in the park. As it turned out, the rooms here were newer and better than our first choice.
So it is the end of their season and the staff all act like it. But the room was OK and just about 50% more than similar motels in this region. The restaurant reminded me of dorm food after three meals there.
Any port in a storm!

Dear Malice6,

Thank you leaving us a review on Trip Advisor. We apologize for any inconvenience when trying to book a room at Many Glacier. As you may have learned, Many Glacier Hotel closes before St. Mary Lodge and it was near completely full until closing. We were glad to read you enjoyed staying at St. Mary however. We apologize for any inconvenience or lack of service you felt you may have received during your stay.

Thank you,

Located just outside Glacier National Park at the junction of the Going-to-the-Sun Road and Highway 89, St Mary Lodge makes a convenient base for accessing the park. Not built in the classic style of Many Glaciers or other old park hotels, it offers no soaring architecture or scenic views. It does provide simple, comfortable accommodations and access to the only village for many miles around with shops, restaurants, markets, and gas stations. The main building has lodge style rooms, but our room was in one of several motel units across the road. It was a simple, comfortable, pine paneled room, with AC, TV, and in-room coffee. Although facing the back away from the road, we picked up a lot of noise from late night parties at a nearby Mexican cantina and other village activities. There is no Wi-Fi available in the rooms, but it is available in the lobby of the main lodge building, important since there are no cell signals anywhere in this area. The lodge has a decent, and not too expensive restaurant. The desk staff were very friendly and swiftly took care of a couple of minor problems.

This is truly the "renovated 1937 cabin" per Glacier Lodging description. Everything is well worn and well-used. It does have adequate bedding - double bed in one small room and bunk beds in the other small room. There is a sleeper sofa in the living area. I would not call the beds comfy but they are adequate. Bathroom is small but there was a nice hot shower for five of us. There is a barebones kitchen with sink, microwave, small refrigerator and dishes. The cabin was clean and there were no insects. The reason for staying here is the location, as it is right outside of the St Mary east entrance of Glacier. Never-the-less, as a hiker cabin that is one step up from camping, the price is too high.

We booked this 3 months ago. Called from Helena said we would arrive late - could someone give us good directions - talked to 4 people all said they were not familiar with the area. Could not help. We arrived - the last 30 miles are very slow curves in the dark with range animals in the road. Parking lot was very dark - had to get out my flashlight to get in the building at 9:30 pm. Once in the basement room, flush did not work we called the front desk and they said maintenance had gone home for the nite. We said put us in another room, we want a room with a working bathroom. She said she could not do that. She sent a bellhop and he and my husband worked on the flush for 1/2 hour or so and he said maintenance would check it the next day - never did - we had to lift the cover several times during 2 days to get it to flush. The basement room had one window over 5 feet high under the porch. Wonder how people would get out in case of fire. Even with pushing the bed to the wall - I figured I could not get out of that window. Dining room had a ton of house flies that you had to keep swatting away. When asking the waiter what the muffin of the day was. He said "I don't know" and did not offer to go find out. The bathroom in our room was so small, you could sit on the flush and wash your hands. You could not undress in the bathroom to take a shower, you had to do that from the bedroom. Would I recommend this to anyone - NO. Way overpriced for the space you get.

We were staying at St Mary's Lodge 2 nights. First night, we had a room with 2 queen beds because they didn't have a King when I made the reservation. The second night we had paid for a Superior King Room in the Lodge the most expensive room type. I had paid for it several months in advance. After the first night, we checked with the front desk at 7:15 am to make sure that we had a Superior King room.. She said that they had our room on the 3rd floor but couldn't give us the key because it was too early and it was not ready. I explained that my husband was hot the night before and we really wanted the KING bed and the 3rd floor would be great with the view and we could leave the door open on the balcony. I explained we would be gone all day.
When we checked back in they had given our paid room away. No King bed and no Superior room. They gave us a basic queen room with no Jacuzzi tub, no fireplace and no couch .Our first night room was much cleaner and nicer.
Very unhappy.
