Late in the season their offerings are limited. My issue was if they were out of something, you were out of luck - no substitutions. Going in the early season may be the best bet.

We spent a couple nights in Saint Mary and ate a late lunch at Johnson's Cafe on the recommendation of an Inn Keeper in Waterton Lakes. We both had sloppy joes with beef & barley soup which was just what we needed before hitting the tail for a long hike. Good sized portions of tasty feed in an interesting western atmosphere. We also ate at Two Sisters down the highway and have to recommend Johnson's Cafe if you want good wholesome food.

Sunday the special is the fried chicken. It is served family style and the price a little more reasonable than regular times. Served with soup, homemade bread, slaw and mashed potatoes. Pretty good homecooking. We also stopped during lunch and the soup and sandwich special was reasonable and very filling. Nice staff also.

We had dinner at Johnson's Cafe. We ordered the dinner special which was fried chicken. It was very tasty and plenty of it. It came with a giant bowl of soup-"good soup", a meal in itself. The chicken was also served with cole slaw and corn bread-also quite good. The service was good and quick. I would recommend this restaurant for good, tasty, home-cooking.

Generous portions of typical, American-style breakfasts. My husband was in "bacon heaven." Not much in the way of healthy offerings, but I did have a wonderful oatmeal, full of apples and nuts and not sweet - delicious.
