“A hidden gem”

Knowing that we would be doing a lot of hiking in Yellowstone and Grand Teton, I wanted to stay in Chico Hot Springs so my 13-year-old son & I could have a little R&R. The place is charming, with a decidedly old-West, "back in the old days" feel, but clean and well-kept. The main pool is kept to about 96 degrees, so it's like swimming in a bathtub; verrry relaxing. The "hot" pool is hotter (but no whirlpool action). There were lots of families with kids, so it was easy to meet people. The dining room is handsome and the food is excellent. The all-you-can-eat brunch in the morning (not included with room) is a very good value. We took a gentle raft ride on the Yellowstone River with a very knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic guide Matt. Overall the staff was wonderful. The only caveat is that there isn't a whole lot to keep a teenager happy unless he/she really wants to be in the pool all day or likes horseback riding.

Room Tip: No A/C, but temperatures were quite cool so not necessary.

We ended up at Chico because of a mudslide blocking our way to Gardiner, and we were so happy that we did! First, the gal at the front desk was so kind and helpful even under the diress of a terrible thunderstorm and the power going off momentarily. Then once the storm ended we enjoyed a long soak in the hot spring pool that was so relaxing after a long day of travel. Once we had dried off in our lodge room, we enjoyed a very good meal at the bar in the restaurant. It is best to make a reservation early for restaurant seating (but honestly we liked eating in the bar). Our Bartender (Kelby, with the awesome mustache) gave us excellent service and an amazing meal. Again, the unflapable service was outstanding even though the bar and restaurant were full; he made us feel we had personal 1:1 service. The room was basic but fine; the bed comfortable and we slept very well even though there was no air conditioning. We opened the window and turned on the fan and enjoyed lovely summer breeze. The shared bathroom was extremely clean and nice and there was no waiting in the morning to enjoy the facilities. Next time we will try the horseback riding or spa, and I am sure those will be good too.

Room Tip: Don't shy away from the lodge rooms if you are willing be adventureous and are on a budget. The...

We recently went swimming with my in-laws who are locals. They were embarassed at how dirty and in need of repair the pool are was. We went for an early swim with my kids and the water was disgusting. Also, they charge you even if you want to watch. My wife was going to sit in the pool area and take photos, but they wanted 3.50 just to sit in the pool area. They make you wear a bracelet which is fine, so why can't someone watch for free? Chico has a long history but we're in NO hurry to head back there. Hopefully the management can make some sensible changes.

We stayed in a suite at Chico Hot Springs Resort during a recent trip to Montana. The room was private and wonderfully appointed and the Hot Springs pool was a great place to spend a day. The atmosphere is relaxed - but maybe a little too relaxed for some. It was okay that the staff overlooked some behaviors (people swimming around with over-flowing drinks), but we had to draw the line at a guest with her pet in the pool - that was when we decided it was time to leave. Overall, a great couple of days though!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Wayne West Wing Suite - more expensive, but no neighbors above, below, or around...

The best part of this stay was landing at the Bozeman airport (awesome) and the drive to Chico.
It was very scenic. Once we arrived we took a hike up a mountain. Very limited where we could go. The highlight of this place was clearly the pool, the hot springs. We chose to wait till the next morning to enjoy the pool when there were not tons of kids hanging out. So we got there at 7:30 a.m. the next morning and found it to be very warm and clean but only stayed in the water a short time. The bar where they serve food was pretty busy and chaotic. It was not an easy place to navigate through, yet the food was good. We booked a whitewater tour with the local tour company Paradise. Knowledgeable and good guide. As far as the room, (fisherman's lodge) it was just okay. The carpet was clearly old and mildewy. We kept the door open most of the time, which wasn't a problem because of the great views.

Is it a family resort? A romantic place for couples? A stop over for hugely tattooed bikers to swig beers in the pol? A "crunchy" stop for woman of a certain age to gather together and hit the spa? Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes! What great people watching and everyone coexisted amicably!

A beautiful spot, we also had a nice room in the Warren Wing. No air conditioning, phones or TV, but we knew (and appreciated!) that.

The front lawn with trees, flowers, chairs and nice shade was GORGEOUS and there are lots of rockers on the front porch. We arrived a bit early for our two-night stay and our room wasn't ready, but we were given wrist bands for the pool and towels and there is a nice, new changing room. The pools are lovely and there is good shade around. You can order (totally fine) food from the Grill for lunch and dinner. There is also a nice gift shop with a coffee bar. We didn't raft or ride (we did earlier in the trip) but everyone around the stables seemed happy.

We had a great dinner in the dining room one night (pricey, but lovely and great service, thanks, Daniel!)

I would absolutely go again for a day or two, it was lovely relaxation after a very active 12 day trip.

Room Tip: Be sure you are getting a bathroom if you want a bathroom!

Our entourage of 4 stayed here for 1 night on our way back to Helena. The surrounding scenery is breath-taking, and you can't beat it when it lies next to the Yellowstone River! The swimming pool was very soothing, and the pool grille provided an excellent deluxe pizza. The rooms were adequate (we knew there was no a/c, phone or tv), but the bed that we had in room #216 was not comfortable at all! It was "lumpy" at best! Also, take in a rafting trip with Paradise Adventures (next door to Chico). You won't be disappointed! Ask for Abram.....
