“Beautiful and BIG”
Review of Flathead Lake

This lake is a major resource to the area. we drove from Kalispell and rented a boat at Polson Flathead Marina because we wanted to hike Wild Horse Island just 40 minutes from the dock and a 28 miles round trip. We did visit the island and thoroughly enjoyed it; however, we had extra time on the boat to cruise the lake and view the variety of homes, camps and wildlife along the shore. This is a big lake and is easy to become disoriented, so if you rent a boat choose land formations to help you get back to the dock. The lake is deep and clean and easy to maneuver the first time you hit the water. What a wonderful day we had for just $220.00 rental. The views of the lake coming and going from Kalispell were outstanding as well.

Beautiful lake and surrounding scenery. Comfortable driving distance to Glacier National Park. Disappointed that evening lake cruise was cancelled because the boat ran out of gas and was stuck on the other side of the lake!

The lake is never short of spectacular. Much of the year snow capped mountains are nearby; there are cherry orchards all along the eastern shore, and there are several pretty good ale breweries in the area. The Bigfork summer threatre is not to be missed.

The view of the lake and the surrounding mountains is fabulous.. We stayed in Polson and drove around the lake to see Lakeside and Bigfork. The views were wonderful. At different times the lake takes on different shades of blue and green.

On a whim and without information drove from St. Mary to Flathead Lake. We could not find a state park entrance, and the one we found included 4 picnic tables, and very limited access the the lake. The state park was wedged between private homes. I am sure there was better access somewhere but it was not marked on the road. A long drive for not much return.
