We visit here each time we come to Philipsburg. I'm a chocoholic so I don't even get past the fudge selection and moose and bear tracks to get to the candy. Sometimes, they demonstrate taffy making with their old fashioned machine, which is cool. Lots of historic charm and a must see in southwest Montana.

I was recently in Montana visiting my boyfriends parents when they decided to take us on a scenic tour to some of the small towns on the western side of Montana. Philipsburg was a charming little town with a brewery, an amazing BBQ place, and of course this candy store. As soon as we walked into the store the owner greeted us and told us how the store worked. All of the assorted candies can be mixed and matched into a bag which costs $7 a pound. The caramel s. chocolates, and fudge are all homemade, and taste incredibly fresh. Don't forget to try a free sample of the fudge, the owner gives you a huge slice, probably the biggest sample size i have ever seen. Overall, this store is very charming and is must visit when in Montana.

The Sweet Palace is a sugar junkie's paradise...yep, it's pricey, but how can you put a price on pure pleasure?
If you don't, at the very least, saddle up to the counter and ask for a sample of AT LEAST one of the dozens of different fudges, you're a fool. This trip, I tried the lemon cream (only available in the summer months) and was blown away. We walked away w/ a bag of sour candy for our son, a bag of old fashioned candy (some of this stuff you can't find anymore except from online specialty stores), and a 1/4 lb each of pistachio cream and rocky road fudge.
It's really part of the whole Pburg experience and I am so glad that there is such a bright spot in town to truly indulge your inner child...but be careful, if you have kiddies, the tendency to overindulge is there too (we saw a father cringe when all was rung up and they were shelling out over 50 bucks for candy!)

It is astonishing to find a candy store with such an extensive selection in this small town in the middle of nowhere. Even if you don't like candy, this former-hardware-store convert is worth the visit for the decor alone. Try the many flavors of caramels - especially licorice! You won't leave without something you like. But plan ahead - it's closed on Saturdays.
