Fun experience for the family. We got our dirt and proceeded to sift through it. We found some nice size gems. Overall, it was very fun and educational.

I love Gem Mountain! I first went as a little kid and now my husband and I make a trip at least annually. The staff is so helpfully and teaches you techniques and how to spot the sapphires. The location is beautiful but don't forget to apply sunscreen as you are 5300 ft above sea level. We love that for $25 a bucket you can find beautiful sapphires in all colors and then they will help you to get them cut, treated and set. Gem Mountain is a must see when in Philipsburg!

The actual mountain site was closed but we headed to town and sifted sand that was brought down from there. Everyone was very nice, helpful and personable. Our two kids enjoyed sifting through the rocks as much as we did. We will definitely come back.

Great staff and it was was very cool sifting through the gravel and finding sapphires. Having a couple cut, but mostly will just remember the experience and bring home a bag of souvenir rough sapphires and memories. Nice gift shop and good service. Very cute little town. We did not go to the mine as time was an issue. Bought the $30 bucket each and sifted there. Fun for the whole family.

My wife is the rock hound. Normally, I wouldn't do this kind of thing, but glad I did. We bought the $50 bag to screen. It took about 2 hours to complete. The owners son is there to assist and go through everything to check for anything we might have missed. Sure enough, he found as many as we did. Came away with about a dozen saphires. Too small to cut and mount but it was a ton of fun. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Be sure that the weather is good because the screening is done outside. We will return next year when we are in the area.
